Springer Spaniel Retreiving

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I know it will have been asked before many times but here goes, I have got a springer bitch coming up to 5 months old everything is going well she's obedient had her out with the ferrets a couple of times which has gone well stays calm while waiting for bolts .I don't want to say the problem is ,because its not a problem yet and i'm not stressing over it , but I also don't want to get to where it is a problem , but when I throw her the dummy she will retrieve it super fast but normally go round me just out of arms reach and have a bit of a chew on it after a bit of encouragement with me on my knees she will come closer and give it up . As I said at the moment not stressing over it , I might only throw it for her 4 times at most while out on her walk any advice would be really helpful because this is the first gundog I have had , always had terriers and lurchers , when I take her out with the dummy I always take her on her own so she's not distracted cheers.

Just my opinion

Try throwing the dummy with a hedge or wall behind you this will stop her from being able to circle you when she retrieves.

Make her sit infront of you and present the dummy in her mouth make her hold it and when taking it off her give her loads of praise. If she starts to chew raise your Voice take it off her and repeat. She's still only young and your correct not sayings its a problem. She will get the idea

Thanks for the replys her recall is very good , and when we are in the house she is always bringing things while I am sat watching tv even if its something she shouldn't have I still take off her and praise her and if its her toy I take it make her sit and give it her back , its just when I throw the dummy I will give it a go with something behind me see how that goes cheers.
