patterdalejoel 669
liverpool v man utd is with out dout the biggest rivalry in the northern part of the country you know f**k all about football lad, even preston/blackpool is bigger than that....
patterdalejoel 669
there is no biggest rivalry in english football. what you feel as an individual to another team like b*******n rovers for example, is no different than what another fan may feel. but daytrippers and glory supporters like man united dont count, and as for everton/liverpool, bill kenwright used to go to liverpool one week, everton the next! unthinkable that is to any other team. i hate f***ing leeds more than blackburn anyway. but one thing is for sure, it would be a hell of a lot more boring without rivalry! i think everyone of our songs mentions rovers in one way lol...
gnasher16 30,118
Gnash I'm by no stretch a Hardcore SAFC fan or fanatical. Thousands upon thousands more so than me They my team and that's it. Fair do,s...............i just find it odd you banging on like a loyal dedicated proud fan when your not much more than a Match of the Day fan........but no prob it takes all sorts.............are you actually from Sunderland or Hartlepool ? .....you seem to have an affinity to both how does that work ?.........You get your eyes cut out your head round here for following 2 clubs/areas thats a crime in itself

In my experience the most intense rivalries in football are quite often the smaller clubs i know your BVurnley rivalry carries a lot of menace likewise Wolves/West Brom......Southampton/Pompey and of course my own Hammers/Millwall as examples.................i think its because us smaller clubs dont get the part time fans and the prawn sandwich lot taking the wife and kids out for the day..........some areas you dont have a choice in what club you follow its handed down through the ages and with that comes a certain amount of expectation from older to younger generation meaning rivalries are kept strong and pure.......none of this 20,000 grown men doing the huddle malarky or choosing 2 away days per year
gnasher16 30,118
Must admit as an away fan visiting St James Park is head and shoulders better than Stadium of Light......i used to like the old Roker Park ground that was a cracking atmosphere i forget the name of the stand the away fans used to go in now but even though it was that corner bit it was a great atmosphere.....Stadium of Light though they put you high up in that South Stand and its just too open ......all nice facilities and that but you dont go to footie for good pies !!......I always liked St James Park though even when your walking round outside its like the centrepiece of the City you can see for miles and inside you can just tell its a big football club.....i remember being at an England game there once so high up the players were like Subbuteo men but its still so easy to get sucked into the atmosphere. Yep if i was unfortunate enough to come from the north east it would have to be the toon for me
gnasher16 30,118
Gnash years ago not so now area I was brought up and Hartlepool gated each other The Collieries and Hartlepool just didn't get on He'll on every fri and sat night in the pubs and clubs At the closest point they are maybe 2 miles apart But spoke with two totally distinct accents and dialects All the collieries were either Sunderland or Newcastle Back in the day Prob 80/20 SAFC Since Keegan Prob 60/40 SAFC Nowadays the Colliery / town thing has gone Good few of my pals are hartlepudlians I was with a townie lass for good few yrs and lived there a while so loads of my colliery mates got on speaking terms with my hartlepudlian mates All's good All my immediate family are SAFC Most of my extended are A few are Nufc ( daft c**ts ) It's banter But on match day it's pure rivalry even amongst folk who are mates and have grew up together Like I say I'm by no way the most fanatical re going to games I get there as and when Used to have season tickets travel to loads away Then got heavy into the greyhounds for 10 years That's easing off now so maybe the footie will come to the fore again But I'm SAFC and we could go to the Conferance But I'd still be SAFC It would be nice to do well and win things But as a kid I choose my colours and they mine Till I die like 50,000 others. What i meant was Hartlepool have a footie club dont they you have often sprung to the defence of Hartlepool yet your a Sunderland fan.....................thats like me springing to the defence of Millwall ......its more than my lifes worth !
