GIBB0 50
it seems these days there are a lot of people who own a saluki x and only see fit to run the hare which is all well and good if thats what you want out of the sport. i was just wondering if there has ever really been a quality daytime dog thats not soley been used for coursing hares. all this talk of lamping wrecks the dog this and that i have never really brought into it. how many of you no a dog thats took 3/3 of the fens consistantly and then gone on the lamp day in day out and took a good bags of bunnies the odd fox or deer all pre ban of course. the risk of injurys is always there and i understand the coursing men not wanting to end there dogs carrer with an injury caused by lamping rabbits. it seems most of the good coursing dogs these days are soley coursing dogs whats your opinion? all the best Gibbo. moonlighter 1,164
My old coursing dog was a jack of all trades. I probally lamped him more than daytime, but that's because of work commitments. He would kill 3 and 3 regular in the day, plus he worked with the terriers and lamped well too. My younger dog is more of an out and out hare dog. I still lamp him but daytime is where he excels. 1 Quote Link to post

bird 9,970
I think there running style is to laid back ...not all but some ..for the lamp some thing need hitting quick..not a 5 min course.. never had 1 so dont know, but lamping most quarry you need dog to get up to them quick, maybe that style would lose alot of game. But a lurcher x to good coursing dog you would think on to a winner, with speed of the lurcher and stamina of the coursing dog.But can see why coursing blokes dont run them regular in the lamp, as any injury from lamping the last thing they want ,when daytime its main job.!! 1 Quote Link to post

You say speed of the lurcher but a coursing saluki x anit slow it's the running style that makes them look slower than they are..my mate has a coursing breed dog that he has brought up lamping and that does well..but you can see somtimes it need more room to work to its full ability .. GIBB0 50
I think there running style is to laid back ...not all but some ..for the lamp some thing need hitting quick..not a 5 min course.. now i no some saluki x seem "laid back" but i am a firm beliver in a dog knowing what quarry he is running. take a saluki x that runs a hares on the fen i dont think the next time it goes on the lamp its going to be giving a bunny a 5 min course on the lamp. dogs know the differance in the quarry its running and will adapt to suit it in my opinion. bornhunterharvey 113
My bitch kills everything day or night out one night on the lamp and end of week out in the day. And all this shit about dogs that work the lamp pull up at cover in the day is a load of bullshit. In this day and age you can't just stick to one Quarry what ever is on the land am having a go at. Thats if its legal like take the Harris with me day and night Quote Link to post
