the scudd 82
I think my most memorable stalk was a large 8 point sika hybrid on the open hill took about 45 mins to get in for a shot but took over 4 hours to get him out Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
A few years back, having been out all afternoon without seeing any deer, on the way back, I was absolutely busting for a crap, and as this was the first time I had stalked with this particular chap, I did not feel like a visit into the bracken to answer the call of nature was entirely appropriate, prefering to wait until we get back, then of course disaster strikes, he spies a roebuck following a doe across the stubble, by this time I am platting my legs and praying he would not be a shootable buck, but oh no, I am politely asked to take the shot, a textbook shot broadside on @ about 130yards, :bang! I have never been so happy to miss a deer in my life, and off he trots into some maize, if I had dropped him and had to graloch him I think I would have soiled myself, dont think I will ever forget that afternoon, pleasant though it was. Is that the true meaning of a sh*t shot? 3 Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
my very first deer is my most memorable. nothing particularly special about it, an old broken-teethed winter roe doe in poor condition, but the emotions for a young lad were undescribable. from spotting her and deciding that she would be the one, creeping up the leeward side of the hedgeline to get a good position, then putting the cross hairs on her with trembling hands, breathing deep and slow as my step dad just quietly put a warning hand on my shoulder to tell me to keep calm, and then, moment of moments, squeezing the trigger.........and seeing the beast almost in slow motion run for about 20 yards before crashung to earth. and then standing looking at her on the floor, and me trembling like a leaf but with a ridiculous grin on my face... yep, never forget a second of that one 6 Quote Link to post
MIK 4,756
Sitting having a dram in the head stalkers house (for medicinal purposes) after a cold day feeding sheep on the hill in white out conditions a large group off hinds appeared on the hill ....it was getting on abit in the day about 2.30 and at that time of year Dec it was dark early ...we were short of our numbers due to it being a very hard winter that year ...so we decided to have a craic at them ..... donned the white suits got the rifles and we both stalked into them about 100 beast s ...the wind wasn't great and the light was failing quick but we managed to get into position and Jimmy fired first then we started dropping hinds ...we shot 12 and then both said what the fuk did we do that for as we were near a mile from the larder and ...had to gralloch them all in pitch black and we decided to leave them till morning and come back with the ponies and get them .... so it was a slog back to the bothie in deep snow in pitch black to continue with the bottle of whisky 2 Quote Link to post
