Cookie maybe the initial estimate of badgers in the area was over estimated. so the numbers were never there in the first place plus the protesters and the police would have an effect,
The Seeker 3,048
I would suggest that the amount of protestors trying to cause disruption has had a large part to pay, I would imagine the pressure put on those guys carrying out the cull having to not only find the badgers but avoid the tree huggers in the process is like trying to do one job with ntheir hand behind their backs. Said it before take the media out of the loop and allow the framer to make the decision if he wants badgers on his land or not and then control like foxes. Even create a season if required but it was always set to fail with so much media attention.

They should be put on the general license in all areas that are badly affected. They're never going to get completely wiped out.
The one 8,513
Same here we lamped a new piece of permission and the farmer said theres a sett over there where some where standing in the mouth of the holes looking at you and you often saw one or two in the fields . Pretty sure with a high powered rifle somebody that knows what there doing could of hit there target

The one 8,513
Lamping with rifles is child's play...... If its that easy why didn't they hit there quota after a extension then
Born Hunter 17,828
Weren't they restricted to 70 yard shots or something daft? If you're lamping 100 acre arable fields you'll not shoot many badgers from a 4x4 with that limitation. Can't see many of them getting out and walking up to brock for a shot either.
Accip74 7,112
I bet they shot more than the quota...........just saying it to please Brian.....
stealthy1 3,964
There would be uproar if a hunt sab walking round in the dark with night vision was shot, some how they get the information on where the culls take place, then the lunatics just walk round all night, every night until the shooters run out of time, but sitting over a set with a rifle is the easy part, don't know why they don't just gas the sets designated for culling, then the shooting fraternity wouldn't come in for any flack, job done
The one 8,513
I think as usual the gave the job to mates of mates instead of guys who where up to the job the mink job up here proved that every mink caught cost something like £1000

paulus 26
they were trapping as well as shooting and it was contractors that were employed to carry the cull out, they were harassed nightly by the unwashed and traps were tampered with and destroyed, the police in one of the cull areas were less than helpful but were spot on in the other,a lot has been learned from these trials, the cull will still be rolled out nationwide,
