Hydraulic Engineers ?

Any hydraulic engineers on here answer a question ? What size ram would i need to push 10 to 15 tons of pressure and what size electric 240v pump would i need to power it ? Its for a cider press project .

What Diameter surface is it acting against?

Will the vessel bellow the ram take it?

Electric hydraulic is going to be an expensive project for a self build.

I'm sure a cheap log splitter from machine mart would be ample if you limited the amount of apples you put through it.

 

To run a 10 plus ton ram your going to need a min 3.5 hp motor.

 

Have you priced some of this gear up? Few hundred for a motor and wiring. Similar for the steelwork. 300 ish for a hyd pump. Extra for pipe work. Hyd tank and oil. Shit loads of miscellaneous stuff that you overlook and decide you need.

does it have to be electric could you not just use a 10 or 20ton bottle jack and pump it manually

electric will be expensive, and wont be much quicker unless your doing major amounts.

if It was me id modify a tool press to suit your needs.

should be able to pick one up for under a 100 quid.

I already use a bottle jack press with a 5 ton press then going up to a 20 and to be fare it works very well getting 10 gallon a press with 7 14x14x4 cheese just always looking to improve would not be thinking along these lines for a hobby press but i do work for the biggest manufacturer of tractor mounted hedge cutters Ive today asked the hydraulic man from the office on the qt hes going to write down what i need to buy
