1888andybhoy 7
Alright lads looking for a bit of advice. Got a new bit of ground for foxes 3000 acres only 2 holes on it that are pigs. Seen 5 foxes around sheep last night with the lamp and shot 2. Found a cracking banking next to a burn asked farmer about putting in a few artificials on the ground he had no probs. if i build a few in the next couple weeks ( im a part time digger driver so get a mini digger from work to dig trenches) do you think they will be used this winter ? Cheers lads. Quote Link to post

perthshire keeper 1,239
i was going to ask if their still leagle but i guess so in scotland we usedto have loads of false earths in the woods and log piles and i even used to put them in for stoats with 3inch clay drain pipes.....ah happy days always found them used when their was snow on the ground or if they were pushed in by hounds, could try the warreners trick of "fox in a bottle" Quote Link to post

TOPPER 1,809
if you want a bolt build them pear shaped with the den on the fat end and put 3 inches of sand in the den as this will drain and be warm to lye on Quote Link to post
Accip74 7,112
Obviously make sure you have decent fall on the pipe, so no water can ever lay in there Quote Link to post
gonetoearth 5,144
The placing ofArtificial earths is an art you need. To reccy the wood through the seasons a site thats well hidden in summer months may not be in winter , it may be proun to flood in heavey rain, as old bodmin says u prevailing wind directions . Charlie uses borans earths burrows that other fox have used for decades Some as lay ups some to breed the choise of site is every thing or all the work is a waste of time , Field craft and knowing the habits of reynard !!!!!!
