I have checked and checked again. I get it right, then it goes off again. Will check all this again next time I take it out the cabinet - have no confidence in taking it to the range - only to be disappointed with the result.

It hasn't a mod - so could be the anticipation of recoil.

Will also give it a good clean with rod, brass spear jag and patches. I normally use hoppes no 9 with first few patches and every so often until patches come out clean.

Feeling deflated with it at the moment.

Thanks

We may be playing with words but for clarification.

Various regions and various FEO can say what they like, the HMR IS legal for fox in the entire UK.

Some regions, for whatever reason, will not condition some/all rimfires for fox, that does not make them illegal, it simply means you are not conditioned to use those calibres in your area, I can visit you and use mine in your region 100% legally.....Daft but true and legal!

It may be something to do with the scope or the bedding of the rifle i.e. the barrel could be touching the stock and it's meant to be free floating. The crown can also be a problem even if there isn't a moderator.

Worth taking it to the range if you can so someone knowledgeable can take a look and shoot it.

It's the anticipation of the blast more than the recoil I think, I am only a little lad, only 5 ft 4, slight build.

Checked the scope and mounts - all tight.

I cleaned it with freehand rod (no guide), brass spear jag and hoppes no 9 on patches. This is the only thing I have done since last zero - not its peppered all over the paper - I fired 15 shots and they cover a 4inch area over 100yds, when I zeroed it - 4 shots were cloverleafing and the other was 10mm away.

My mentor came and helped me get it zeroed - but the guy has a life and I don't want to hassle him. I haven't changed anything since he came, only cleaned it.

It's not consistent at all - this is why I have lost faith.

Shouldn't it still group the same??

Thanks

Once you have it clean and zeroed, cleaning should make next to no difference in POI. I strip and clean all my centerfires after use, including the mods, put them all back together with no change of zero.

Pretty obviously something is going wrong somewhere, could be rifle package, ammo, or you!

Start eliminating, get someone else to try it, double check everything is firmly attached, change scope/mounts, change ammo, shoot off support, Bipod or preferably sandbags, don't clean it between zero sessions for the time being and see if anything changes, preferably one at a time! Did I read earlier you don't have a mod, it can't be that if you don't have one, is the barrel and crown in good condition?

This is what I thought - That zero wouldn't shift after cleaning. It's the same ammo that gave me the cloverleaf zero - thought I'd stick to it.

It doesn't have a mod - Have checked the barrel and crown, all looks well - although not entirely sure what I'm looking out for, the crown doesn't look blistered nor worn away on either side.

I will give it a good clean and start again - should I be using anything different to clean it with?

My mentor got it zeroed, then I shot the cloverleaf on the target. This gave me confidence - great. Then all I did was clean it and it's peppering shots. I'm half way to thinking it's my error - but I hold it, point, see bull, hold it still, then pull trigger - I try not to overaim, hold my breath still at the moment of pulling the trigger, no longer than 3/4 seconds maximum.

I shoot off the MTM Predator Rest in prone - I make sure I'm relaxed and heart rate is normal.

Thanks

Odds are it is something simple or obvious, but not always easy to deal with via a forum, what you need is someone else to shoot it when you start shotgunning the target, this should show if its you or the gun, then move on from there!
