Question is as well as the usual conditions it says that the firearms and ammunition granted can be used for shooting any legal quarry suitable for that calibre and over any land which the holder has lawful authority to shoot. The lawful shooting of deer and the shooting of vermin. The humane killing of animals. Does this mean fox with the .17hmr is acceptable and anywhere I have permission whether verbal or written? Does this mean fox with the .17hmr is acceptable and anywhere I have permission whether verbal or written? its an open ticket so you can shoot anywhere you have lawful authority to do so, each area interprets the guidelines differently with some granting 17hmr for fox, some not and others sitting on the fence, best option would be to ring them tomorrow and clarify it Quote Link to post

let'sshoot 11 Posted December 1, 2013 Report Share Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Mine says 'The 17hmr rifle, sound moderator and ammunition shall be used for shooting vermin and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot.' and 'The .223 rifle, sound moderator and ammunition shall be used for shooting fox and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot.' I have 'permission' to a few farmers land and the officer looked at and 'cleared' these parcels of land which I asked to shoot over. Does this mean that I can go to another farm which the officer hasn't 'cleared' and shoot??? I should add that this is my first grant - had it for just over a year and it currently has a mentor condition on the .223 which I'm going to ask to be removed in the next few weeks. As your FAC is "closed" then each piece of land you shoot on you must have two things, 1 - Permission from the landowner to shoot there, 2 - That the land has been inspected by the licensing department for the area it is situated in and cleared for use of the calibres you are shooting with, Until you have an "open" ticket, everywhere you shoot has to have already been approved for the calibre you're carrying, Once opened, the onus is on you to determine whether the land is safe or not, all you need is permission when you reach that stage, SS Quote Link to post

Al69ec 5 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Report Share Posted December 2, 2013 My cert does t specify which calibre is to be used for any specific quarry. Both calibres all legal quarry as I read it. The fao did say on my interview that fox with .17 hmr is a grey area but didn't say it was illegal to shoot them with it. Check the mounts are tight, the mod is tight, the crown of the rifle at the muzzle isn't damaged and go from there Quote Link to post
