gsdxg 10 Posted March 1, 2014 Report Share Posted March 1, 2014 when coursing in the preban era i allways favoured big dogs 26 upwards .the best two dogs i see on hares on winter green were 27 inches at the shoulder 85lbs and 29 at theshoulder 95lbs.both had the ability to drop a gear the 27 inch in particular had very good acceleration on the strike .6 out of six is possible but not on six good strong winter hares .i have seen some hares that were so slow any average speed lurcher could catch them .i have seen hares slow down for a slow dog to catch up then pull away again .if you could go out preban and come home most times daylight winter time with 2 or 3 hares i would say you had a good dog Quote Link to post
