Knife Advice

Hiya guys.

 

Well since Xmas is around the corner I want to get my little brother his very 1st hunting knife like my big brother got me. Anyway I really don't know what is so special about Damascus knives? I want to get him something he will remember and not just some cheap little thing that will break this time next year. SO any advice on materials/makes etc would be great. Thanks in advice.

Now as for a cheap little knife for myself as my old bunny knife is past its best really so a few folk have recommended Opinel knives and have said the Opinel No8 is a good little knife but I have found it in Carbon steel and stainless. Which one am I better going for?

i find it sharpens easier and holds an edge better but others will say the opposite

i have a winchester sheath knife,steel blade wooden handle around 3.5" blade cost about £25 a few years back and would recommend them if it's any help??....

 

 

 

bit of a side track but anyone used obsidian? is it that sharp and how long does the edge last?
