New Dog In Oregon, Usa...

Recommended Posts

This is a dog that was brought to my attention lately. He's in Eastern Oregon but was brought up here from Argentina. It's a Greyhound crossed with and Airedale but the Airedale has a bit of pit in it. It's an interesting dog that is doing some work on bobcats. He sure is a good looking sucker.

pip 1968- That's what I thought.

D Lloyd- I'm not sure it's been on cougars but I don't think it would have much problem with bobcats.

bird- I don't know it's level of fight but I would imagine it kills from what I've seen out of other Airedales. Bobcats vary in size from region to region. Out West a large one is in the lower 30's (13 kg.). Here in the Northern Great Lakes Region large stars at 40 lbs. (18 kg.) and it's the same in the Northeast. I've seen 50+ lb. (22 kg.+) cats taken here.

jack68- This is the only picture of the dog that I know of.

Gaz_1989- Good point.

This dog is not all that old from what I know. It's got a fantastic head for looks and purpose. For me, it was very exciting to hear about because I don't know of another person that is hunting a lurcher on bobcats. For those that don't know, I have a litter of stag x boarder collies that are about 3 1/2 months old that I plan on hunting bobcats with along with my leopard hounds. It is nice to hear about someone else doing it and to see what kind of success they are having. I think that my lurchers should be able to handle the rigors of hunting bobcats and have the brains to lock one down. Bobcats are notorious for being hard to catch. Over here bobcats are considered the second hardest animal to tree with a dog with the grey fox being the hardest (based on the difficulty of the chase and not the fight). I don't know what kind of job they'll be able to do on an day old track or how much voice they're likely to give on a track (my guess is not much). I do think that with the boarder collie brains in their head, they ought to be able to learn how the bobcat works fairly well. We'll see!! The dog above gives me some encouragement that I'm onto something. If anyone out there knows someone that is hunting lurchers on bobcats or lynx anywhere else shoot me a message, I'm all ears.

That is my dog. that picture was taken when we were running out side of Brothers Oregon. He is from Illinois and was bred by Rob Craver and is a littermate to Dans Junior dog. Stag x Bull/Airedale. he has never been run on bobcats but I used his brother to and used to use some Jagds to bolt bobs from the rocks. We used Walkers to run cats. Lurchers came in case
