Advice Please Guys .17Hmr For Fox?

Recommended Posts

Well, that's the sort of thing that pisses off people, simple mistake and a prosecution warning, seems way ott though!!!

My region have made NUMEROUS mistakes on my personal FAC and SGC and Club FAC over the years, at one point issuing me an AUTOMATIC Shotgun (not Semi).

Perhaps they should concentrate in getting their own house in order, and when THEY are perfect they may have a case against others!

Exactly. I never signed it because I never had cause to use it and I see saw the Licence as a security risk in itself once signed.

It has a photo, DOB, full name and address. Everything a good identity thief needs for the perfect identity fraud, in fact passport fraud with the photo as well. So I didn't sign it whilst I wasn't needing to use it. Lesson learnt but it was harsh.

You would have thought the police would be aware of identity theft and would in some way encrypt info on the licence. eg why not just have name and photo and a large licence number on the licence?

If an officer wants to verify your address / DOB, they can call in on the radio to verify the address / DOB you give them from the PNC via the licence number. That's more secure than having it written on it because when its written on it a thief could learn it. If you have to give it to the officer and its then verified from the computer, you have to be the genuine holder to know it.

It was being pedantic. A simple phone call or a letter returning the application with a gentle reminder to sign and return would have sufficed. Instead I get a letter informing me of a having committed an offence and warning me that if I fail to sign again I may end up having my certificate revoked and be taken to Court and prosecuted.

The again that's my region for you. They had a bad reputation as many of the dept were allegedly anti's and out to stop ownership. I've recently heard better things from other shooters about them so maybe they've changed for the better with new staff but who knows.

Apparently your .22lr and 17HMR are conditioned for Vermin and AOLQ.   Fox are vermin, but even if you are not happy with that, I would like to see anybody argue they are not AOLQ?

Yeah as CC said, some counties won't grant any rimfire for Fox.   Personally I see that as an advantage.

I have been using a .17 HMR fox close range fox work for the last 3 years. We only use the hmr to about 70yards at tops for foxes. Never had one move an inch with a clean shot to the base of the ea

"People shooting at foxes 200 yards away with a HMR are looking for trouble"

This is what I don't understand, we hear this all the time.

It shouldn't need saying...people shooting at deer 1000 yards away with a .308 are looking for trouble, so why do we need reminding not to overstretch smaller calibres?

Shoot every calibre within your limits, the ammo limits, and the calibre limits. Easy!

Im very confident at taking at shot at a fox at 150 no dramas as long as I am steady and have a good rest. Anything paast that and there is less margin for error. Having said that I have taken 1 fox past 200 with the HMR but most have been 70 80 100 yards, with the odd one been 120 130. Depends on your rifle too, some shoot more accurately than others. I have no complaints about my CZ in blued walnut.

What a load of crap, if your hmr is conditioned for foxes then shoot them, some people in gunshops spout so much crap it is untrue, recognised fox tool by whom? The bloody RSPCA, if you make sure they are close Ie within 75 yards and you place the bullet in the right place they will drop, a .223 is a much better fox round, agreed but do not listen to such rubbish, some forces like mine for instance will not sanction rimfires for fox control, .22 hornet being the smallest they will allow, forget it mate its boll-cks, and get out shooting

Here in Norfolk i was given a condition for = FOX = min .17 HORNET And "Not" Hmr Feo said no way Hmr for FOX in Norfolk . :rtfm: Here is my Open FAC and Conditions
