socks 32,253
We all know that lurchers have many talents and can do a wide array of jobs from ferreting ... Lamping ... Bushing ... working in a beating line etc etc .... If I am honest I take it for granted that my dogs should be able to do a variety of different jobs and I get a bit blaze' about it ... I was on one of my contract jobs today which is predominantly squirrels and a fox every couple of weeks ... But as I said mainly squirrels ... I noticed today that as soon as the youngster realises what piece of ground she is on she adapts her hunting style ... On this piece of land apart from the normal style of hunting she does a lot more air scenting and actually stops and scans the trees for squirrels and any she spots she will follow until I take a shot at it ...,she knows this place is squirrel city and channels her efforts to catching them .... Anybody else noticed their dogs doing this ...... She took this one as it was about five foot up the tree trying to make its escape ........ 6 Quote Link to post

R.A.W 1,987
I know exactly what your saying..........my lurchers only hunt the trees when i exercise them on one part of the farm. They have alot of fun this time of years with the leaves off the trees the hedges around are pretty old so the squirrels have to drop to the floor from time to time to get to the bigger trees. If I've got a ferret box on my back they never look up It's funny seeing a lurcher up a tree looking back at you with a look of " How do I get down from here dad". Quote Link to post
weasle 1,119
Slightly different but seen em get excited going towards certain places when they have killed something there before even if it was the first and last time there. Back in the day had a dog that loved foxes the sound of a magpie chattering would have her flat out to see what it had seen. Truth is they take it all in and probably know us better than we know our selves. 3 Quote Link to post
