Drontal Plus / Stronghold

Hi I took my cocker to the vets last week because he had anal gland problem. While I was there I asked about flea treatment because I don't think the frontline is doing anything. They advised stronghold so I tried that. Yesterday he was due his 3 monthly drontal which I gave him. Had a terrible night with him wouldn't settle whinning and pacing up and down all night gagging but not sick and one lot of the runs. He seems a lot better this morning. I've was told that stronghold also does worms. So have I double dossed him?. Shouldnt I use this combination of drugs?. It was our regular vets and wasent told not to use drontal.

when did you give it the stronghold as stronghold doe s do worm as well it sounds like the ingredients /chemicals have reacted as they use different chemicals to kill the worms give the dogs some pro bio tic yougurt to settle its stomach and keep an eye on it if it doesnt settle within 24 hours go back to the vet

as above by topper, but i know advocate does all sorts of stuff, but does not do tapeworms, does stronghold do tapeworms as well?? not sure as I have never used it.

I will never use Drontal as long as I live.

 

I still hold this tablet responsible for the Ill-health, decline and ultimately the death of my Trev. He was perfect before, once given he became very ill and no amount of money of vets could find anything wrong with him.

 

I also accept that neither Bayer nor the vets had ever come across this issue before.

The stronghold was given last week. Hes back to his mormal self now . Just not sure about using this combination again. Come to think of it he's had upset stomach before after being wormed. Just wasent so unsettled.

Stronghold dosent do tapeworm. That's why I use the drontal. Is there anything out there that will just do tapeworm. I can use that along side stronghold then. Because the stronghold is doing a good job on fleas and covers mites and other worms.

The stronghold is to be used once a month. So even if I give him drontal 2 weeks after his stronghold he will be due another dose of sttonghold 2weeks after that. So tapeworm aside he would have 3 doses of wormer in 6 weeks . That seems a lot of drugs for him to handle. Because the stronghold will do worms (except tape) then 2 weeks latet the drontal will do the worms including tape and 2 weeks later he will be due a stronghold which will do the worms again.

Use stronghold 3 monthly and drontal 3 monthly alternately.

 

I worm with advocate spot on in January and July and drontal in April and October.

I need to use stronghold monthly because its for fleas and mites but it also does worms. So using stronghold 3 monthly might give problems with fleas. All sorted now thanks for replies
