terryd 8,383
I assumed they went on point then on command hit the cover once you were ready with the gun or a slyly placed net ? I also picture that as a marking dog for ferreting that would be perfect way of marking 1 Quote Link to post
jiggy 3,209
so the purpose of a bushing dog is to flush game from cover ?....so why would you choose a bred that has the potential to go on point when it encounters game ?.. many pointers and setters will bark at and push foxes from cover without pointing and occasionally will catch and break up a fox they are no bigger than a hound and a hound can hunt tight cover. MIK 4,756
I work a pointer and follow a pack of hounds as many times a week as work allows a square peg doesn't go into a round hole 1 Quote Link to post
jiggy 3,209
I work a pointer and follow a pack of hounds as many times a week as work allows a square peg doesn't go into a round holefor handy bushing when you don't have a pack of hounds knocking about they can and will bush well for someone who is tight for space and only keeps 1 dog ,most breeds will if given a bit of action labradors included.not recommended if your a field trial enthusiast or picker up its more suited to rough shooters. kyboy44 11
I know that I was looking at the German bread ones for the fact they will hunt birds and fur both over here in the states I have heard of a few guys using them for hogs and coyotes from the little bit I have read is they don't point on furs but will push them out to the gun but I would love to know if that is right if anyone used them on fur and if there is any difference between the G.W.P and the G.S.P Edited November 17, 2016 by kyboy44 Quote Link to post
Bush Rummager 4,472
I owned a G.S.P while back, grand bitch, brought up and worked her with a lurcher.. parteners in crime you could say. I will admit, i threw the rule book out of the window, regarding pointing. Over the years, she layed a serious amount of game on for the lurcher. Caught a fair few bit's herself too, including feather. No holding back from me..i encouraged to get involved. Hunt anything up. Certainly put a bend in a fox. Strangely, only opened up on deer. Great jumper too, not a deal slowed her down. If you're looking for a dog to turn into a patch of brambles to bolt a rabbit.. then i wouldn't bother. Plenty of other dogs way better suited. If you're looking for a rangy dog, that can cover ground quickly, work a plantation through, a 50 acre field through, big fell sides covered in gourse, then i would say have a serious think about the german breeds. 2 Quote Link to post
