terryd 8,430
Same thing happened to the bitch in my avatar she made it to a good 16-18 years mind. In her later years the grandmother collared her as a compained and a pet and looked after her really well which is why she lived so long I guess. But when the grandmother passed away I had her back for her final years. When her back end went I came home from work one day and bit the bullet carried her down to the vet. Not easy but had to be done Quote Link to post

Cleanspade 3,322
its difficult thats for sure. i let my last old bitch hang around a little to long. i only realised after she was gone that i had let her down and should have had the common sense to put her away a little sooner than i did. you have to ask yourself if you are being selfish and keeping them going for your own feelings. thats what i did. i new she should be down the road. i just didnt want to part with her. she was a little good one and carried lines to others i had kept and worked. its a big responsability. that should be faced head on. i dont envy you stig. my oldest dog is 9 now. so hopefully i wont be in that position for a good while now. all the best to you and your old tyke. Huan72 687
Its the hardest decision in the world, a heart breaking, gut wrenching thing to have to do but it's the last, good thing you can do for them, to ease their passing is the least we owe our four legged mates. Good luck and great looking dog by the way, all the best to you and her 1 Quote Link to post
unlacedgecko 1,466
It is a tough decision. Never any easy thing to face. But, as an old dog man said to me once 'It is better to do it 6 months too early than 6 months too late.' 4 Quote Link to post
BIG G wheton machine 1,594
anybody with any feelings towards the dogs knows. but I also think that dog senses that your churning inside, the dogs can atleast part the earth knowing that they were part of a good team, and loved and respected. even if they were sent on their way a little late. Ive a dog and he is partially deaf and blind, i was going to do the do, but a few people have said that once he gets to use his nose more instead of his eyes he will be just fine. He is only 8, but is my best friend ever. Quote Link to post
