jukel123 7,957
Pre- ban, which was the hardest course for a lurcher, a fox or a hare? Pre- ban my 3/4 grey/collie caught plenty of hunted up hares-not many given 100 yds law I admit. I've never been into coursing foxes in daylight or at night. But the foxes I've seen lamped on video all seem to have two dogs onto the fox. Even with two dogs, the fox seems to be very difficult to nail. So, which is the best at evading capture, fox or hare? Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
I found a slow hare easier to catch than a fast fox,or was it a fast hare and slow fox?,its been that long the memory fuzzles. 2 Quote Link to post
sailor30 658
hare is a lot hard in my eyes like...done a lot of daytime foxing...but I think the hare in a different league... Quote Link to post
look up 406
A dog that dont really want a fox or the sharp end will make a fox look good..don't get me wrong some can shift..and turn very well ...a dog with a good running style will make short work of catching one...but like sailor30 a hare is a different league..day or night .. 1 Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
now and then a dog came upon a fox which would twist and turn and fold the dog inside out, make even a very good dog look stupid. i've seen one or two which really were amazingly clever runners. 1 Quote Link to post
stripes 401
The hare for flat out speed and turn, caught far more fox's than hares.and i have never ran two dogs together. Edited November 25, 2013 by stripes Quote Link to post
TROY_BOY 62
there is no comparison in which is the harder course 1 Quote Link to post
AlfieR 13
Hare most deffo harder to catch Quote Link to post

TheLurcherBoy 69
my whippet would nail a fox... hare tho is waaaaay different they leave her for dead in the daytime and at night they run far better than a fox!! so imo hares are alot hard to catch both day and night... Thesharpeend 85
Depends on what you into hare are quicker but a get a right buzz when the fox has bin ran before and nose what it's doin and starts whip it's turns in an out dog sit sitting on its arse.cant get any better thn dog just puts a stop to it Quote Link to post
cocker 2,654
foxes are good, but hares are better at running than foxes, 1 Quote Link to post

GIBB0 50
in my opinion you cant compare the two its 2 completely different running styles the hare is obviously a better COURSING challenge than a fox. a dog who is not committed can make a fox look better than it is. take nothing away from a fox they can turn on a dime and I have seen some great courses more often than not on the lamp with the use of more twists and turns than flat out speed. 1 Quote Link to post
