Guest Frank
Pure whippets from good working lines are good aswell. I have never owned a whippet bedlington cross, so can not comment on this, but have heard, a good one is usefull when ferreting. I did have a collie x whippet once, she was ok, but not very good at picking up the rabbits, lacked in pace and strike, as i think, sometimes, the whippet frame, is too small to take the collie body. But thats just my experince with one. Frank. Quote Link to post

Boom 0
Will pure whippets get tired quicker than a whippet x beddie? my beddie whippet cross had more stamina than my mates pure breed whippet but wasent quite as fast Edited September 13, 2007 by Boom Quote Link to post
JollyPoacher 3
Beddy x Whippet. Pretty much fits your bill. Would also consider a beddy whippet x greyhound if you think you might get into flushing long ears to guns (??) as well. A whippet will do the bunnies just as well but I think you get a more tenacious dog with a better nose if you pick the right Bedlington x. Ive only had one of each, but now a beddy x convert. Neal 1,857
I use my pure kelpies for ferreting but would be the first to admit: a) they are not the ideal dog for everybody as they can be temperemental and b)mine aren't exactly fast enough to catch in the open though they do well in thick cover. However, the question was regarding lurchers so I thought I'd mention this and see what others think: I joked to somebody recently about the viability of a working cocker x whippet but in hindsight I'm wondering if it could actually be quite a good little ferreting dog. I've heard of some cockers which are gamer than some terriers and as for nose...! Has anybody ever tried a little gundog x whippet for ferreting? Edited September 15, 2007 by Neal Quote Link to post
Greengrass 201
How much do mike brown's whippets sell for thanks in advance Greengrass Quote Link to post
jonathan 0
best ferreting dog is a beddy but they will all so take other things if you let them a got two 3/4 bedlington x and they lamp and ferret and take foxes. but they are no good on big fields because that not a fast dog but there clover so they can easy catch on the lamp.
