sprocker dog 7
was out foxing last night and after an hour or so shot a vixen with my tikka 22/250. I know for the last few weeks now that the foxes are calling here and there so I tried this last night and had good results. after picking the vixen up I squeezed all the urine out of her and placed the digital caller where I picked her up and played the vixen calling bark randomly. settled back about 180yds at a 90 degree angle to the breeze and waited to see if any dogs appeared. within an hour a dog fox appeared and homed straight in to the area and then was shot, I retrieved the body and then went back to waiting again. after an hour and half I was thinking of going home when I picked up another set of eyes in the nv. this time I remotely stopped the caller to see if this fox would home in on the smell and not the call and it did. this fox was shot and it was another dog. I read about this method in Canada where they shoot coyotes so thought why not try it on foxes. I would like to try it again to see if it does really work or what happened last night was a one off. so the question is have any of you guys heard of or tried this yourself, I would be interested in any of your results . slipper 116
No have not tried it but sounds a good idea to use the urine as an inticer, might give that a go if I can shoot a vixen first Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Never had the cause to try but it makes sense at the right time of year! Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
I've read about vixens being buried in 5 gallon drums, with a capped pipe sticking out the top. Capped to stop water getting in, but holes drilled in the sides to let the scent out. Read they were buried in a place surrounded by snares to catch randy feckers homing in on the scent. Fact or fiction I don't know but it does sound to have a bit of sense to it. Quote Link to post
