thursodog 353
The recoil on them is not excessive but is also not so refined as a tuned gun. Should still manage good groups on paper to start with. Chris 1 Quote Link to post
thursodog 353
Here's a couple of vids on taking them apart and relubing. Watch out for sharp edges and don't concern yourself about the spring removal as the sub 12 80s have little or no preload. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm1zFkS3Zts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9NBzJaOSKU 1 Quote Link to post

Room with a view 3
Hi mate. The easiest and best option is to send it to either of the pros mentioned above if you have not done this sort of thing before. I've worked my way up from fettling to doing a full tune on my and its fiddly but very enjoyable. The pros can grind down and button the piston, size the cylinder, port the transfer port, fit a top quality piston seal, upgrade the barrel shims, line your piston, fit good quality spring guide and top hat, fix the guide to your end block, fit a top quality main spring and tune up the record trigger so it shoots beautifully. I've done this to my and its currently sitting a 17 fpe (FAC) and lovely to shoot with a little recoil and no muzzle flip. I can stick a pellet on the scope turret and it stays on 9 times out of ten, occasionally slips off as there is still a small kick compared to when I have in my spare sub 12 fpe spring. It almost has no recoil in sub 12 and is amazingly accurate when I'm not pulling or bodging the shot in some way. I love this old gun and will be passing it on to my kids when its time to plant me out with the spuds. Btw if anyone tries to tell you its a heavy brute insist that they stand in a corner and repeat 'I'm an idiot for that statement' 10 000 times then resume the air rifle discussion with the adjusted air gunner. Best of luck with the legendary Chris. ive been told to strip it down de-grease it and use moly on the spring and piston,I'm told this will help dampen a bit of the twang although I'm unsure Quote Link to post
thursodog 353
Yep the moly does help. Watch the vid on assembly on this thread and follow it and you won't go wrong. Regards C 1 Quote Link to post
Room with a view 3
Done the above polished the piston with 600 grit wet n dry degreased and applied moly fitted a top hat no twang any more scratched it a bit which is a shame Quote Link to post
Room with a view 3
Done the above fitted a top hat as well no twang at all!! When the rain stops il get the chorno out Quote Link to post
