Fox Whistles. which ones Best???

Recommended Posts

gday. one of the things i often think about when out whistling is - is the button whistle the 1 i really should be using?? is it really as good as they come??? there are obviously hundreds, even thousands of different fox whistles out there, with many suiting different conditions (climate etc). im in Vic (australia) and i hunt in the hilly country near Mt Beauty and Tallangata. so whats a good whistle for those areas? any tips??? the button whistle works fairly well. i can usually get 5 or 6 in a good morning, but im wondering if theres something out there that can give me 'the edge'. ???? :signthankspin:

You dont need any more help mate, you need to appreciate what you have.

Thats good hunting by any standards, best type of caller I use is my hand.

Get yourself a piece of metal, about 2x2 inch. Drill a wee hole hole bang in the center and then fold the metal in half ensureing the fold is centered across the hole, when you have formed an A frame shape with the metal you have one hell of a caller, cheap and deadly.

yer but thats a Hell of a lot of walking..... on a property of about 2300acres in which im the only person the owner allows on. i honestly didnt think it was all that good? i watched a hunting video in which 5 blokes went out for 3 days and ended up whistling about 40 foxes. (but when you think about it... it is a video). I've actually been there only 5 times, scoring 3,6,2,4 and 4. i reckon ive probly missed about 6 over all aswell. its like every bloody clump of tussocks and every log has a fox inside. :gunsmilie: there's a lot of foxes there!!! i would go spottyen but its bloody hairy country and the owner forbids me from driving there at night. mabye if im feeling energetic 1 night ill walk it.

thanks for your reply Irish Lurcher<[bANNED TEXT]>[bANNED TEXT]>. you are right about that design, its cheap. mabye i shall see just how affective it is. because the button whistle is hard to beat.

well, to get that, which has only been done like once! it took a bloody long walk. the .17 and the shotty echoe just as much as a .270 amongst the timber filled hills, so youv'e gotta walk half a freaken mile before whistling again after firing. i havent done that much whistling so im not that sure of good standards. all i know is to select a shady spot (perhaps at a tree) and stand extremely still. ive also lost a few because i moved. well considering you think thats alright, ill try to keep doing what im doing. thanks for your reply Ditch Shitter<[bANNED TEXT]>[bANNED TEXT]>. :victory:

Yer, without goin back to find out I can't spell his name either! When his first vid hit over here I watched it and very impressive it is too! Bought the 'whistle'....very well made thing too, 'gold plated' it stated.........he uses it with such skill.......Me, well, I found it very difficult, you really have to learn to use and master it before taking it out in the field, drove everyone around me mad as I tried and tried to get on terms with it, drove myself nuts on the car jurney to work morning and night, especially my hounds who's once quiet daily walks became a cacophony of sound that must have been killin their ears, not to mention the inevitable spraying of saliva that came with it, dashboard suffered to! Yep, that leather lanyard it comes with is well thought out, as it shot from my gob almost every time!!!

I really belive this piece of kit could be very effective, as some of the sounds ommited, came out very well BUT it wern't for me!

Went back to the 'ol charm braclett of about 8 different callers round my neck, with the biting reed one most favoured, that and the cheapest of all......back of my hand!!

Let us know how you get on Oldskool

Cheers

got it in the post yesterday... its a shame they dont come engraved with his name anymore! to be honest i have to say that i had it mastered after a few puffs... if you turn it over the sound is alot more raspy! the volume just depends on how hard you can puff into it... i left my ears ringing with the fecking thing when i was testing it out... i think it should be good especially as everyone is using theyre hands nowadays... i like to keep a few different ones
