Astronomer, Please ....?

Recommended Posts

Thanks, people  Venus it is! Low. Bright as it gets. Low and to the south west side of what I'd roughly judge to be 'south'. Just as the sites there say it would be.

And, Socks; I don't know how your sky looked, at 17:00? But, as I posted: This was quite simply the only thing visible in the sky, for me. Apart from the woodcock that flashed down onto the hill meadow.

Cheers, all. Now I can tell my boss. It was he who was wondering.

I thought it was the Christmas star

Actually, I was wondering, aloud, if it might be the ~ is it ~ " South Pole Star ", I think I've heard of. Dunno.

Anyway, yes, 110% Venus. I was thinking, even as I wrote " South "; " Hmm. But, town's south. And this was a leeedle bit more to the west of south ..... " Also, showing virtually on the horizon. Exactly where Venus should be expected right now ;)

Funny. I remember, else where, about thirty years ago, hearing the local radio explaining where to look for Venus. And, I'm sure, I had to look south west. But, she was much higher and amongst more constellations.

Different time of year, I imagine? I'm more interested in ringing the woodcocks! :boogy:
