neems 2,406
No gun or lurchers, just bushing dogs that will catch on their own,not like hounds I mean something you could have a quick hour with early in the morning, maybe in spots where a little non descript dog or spaniel would not draw too much unwanted attention. AKeeNShoT 5
Depends on the bushing ground I suppose it would need to be very nippy to catch often on a run and yet not to big to be able to crash into a ll the cover..... I've read on here of lads during staffies for a bit ferreting and bushing but I'd of thought if you didn't want to drawn any attention to yourself I wouldn't take a working dog out that is walking alongside me while am dressed in head to toe Camo gear as I've seen happen a few times..... I've got a heavy bred collie x and when I'm out and about not wanting any attention I take her she ain't the best bushing dog but she gives it ago and catches... And I only wear a Old plain wind proof coat and jeans with me hiking boots and a small rucksack and stay on public foot paths I nearly always get a bunny or 2 And the odd pheasant and no one person has asked if me dog is a lurcher...... I use her mostly for ferreting and she is canny on the lamp but bushing seems a perfect pass time we both enjoy..... Other then a dog that don't draw to much attention I think any working type will do as long as its willing to hit the cover and then Chase and catch the bunny 3 Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
I used to do it with my Plummer, not straying too far off public footpaths either, he,d catch rabbits in their runs, if i came across a keeper they thought i was looking for rats and would usuly point my towards their feeders, lost him to ground a few times though, usuly under the thickest of cover, buster. 1 Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
I have a collie x beddie whippet, I use her for ratching around for small game and for flushing for the bigger dogs. rarely does she attract unwanted attention. In fact now I think about, Ive always had a littlish collie cur for just that reason, and guess I always will. 7 Quote Link to post

Mustelid 143
Trenchfoot... does your bitch catch much game? She looks spot on for ferreting. Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
Trenchfoot... does your bitch catch much game? She looks spot on for ferreting. She does okay. I haven't ferreted with her for the last few years, though she did show early promise, I just prefer mooching these days in the main. For working around rush beds, rough cover and woodland on small game she has always kept me happy. And that's all I ask of her 1 Quote Link to post
