NEWKID 27,278
During a chat with SeanC yesterday he commented on my lack of posting on the ferreting this year, so I thought I'd chuck a few photos and a little report up... Sunday was meant to be a trip up the road to a large chicken farm, I've only lamped this place so far and it's full of rabbits so I was keen to get stuck in, I had to phone the farm manager in the morning and set up where we could get at, unfortunately he hadn't managed to speak to his boss ( the owner) who lived on the farm and was reluctant to let us on with out letting him know.... Change of plan saw us 5 mins from mine on a big farm which is my main lump of land, it's a big place and you could spend the year on here alone, the hedges are heavy and full of all the normal delights, hawthorn, holly, bramble, nettles they've got the lot ... We decided to do a long hedge between a sheep paddock and a large arable field, normal tactics were used, stop nets ( 6 yrd quick sets) up the hedge line and as many runs through the hedge cut off plus stopping the hedge at the 2 ends of each section, it all worked well enough with 9 rabbits bagged and only 1 escapee ( Mickys side )... not a big amount for a big hedge and tbh I expected more, but better than 8 ( as Stabba would say )... We used a couple of this years kits ,alongside a couple of older ferrets, bred from my hob and Mick Jill, Mick had already had a weekend out with them taking 20 on a Saturday and another 10 on a Sunday a couple of weeks back, they worked fine again on Sunday with minimal fuss. I took home a nice stocky white jill, Micks kept 3 back and 1 has gone to one of his mates to work with a hawk so hopefully they come on well. 1 Quote Link to post
