I in the main bolt rabbits for the hawk but enjoy netting too. but i agree with all the anticipation and getting to see the ferrets stretch their legs. I just love it when a ferret is on the scent scuttling around between holes or bobbing it's head up.....

Ferreting doesnt really do anything for me other than bolt the rabbit for my hawk, thats when the real action starts

I love hunting in general, because it gives me a chance to use the hunter/gatherer skills we all have, but don't use. Which in turn helps me sleep a little better knowing when the petrol runs out, I`ll still be able to feed my family - for at least a little while longer. It doesn't matter what Im after or fishing for, theres something about outwitting an opponent on its home turf.

From the minute the dog marks, to carefully laying the nets, to entering the ferreting then i love watching the dog following the ferret up the hedge side, stopping and standing stock still, shivering in anticipation ... you know whats coming because she's telling you.... Man, ferret and dog working together..

 

Oh and Monday morning a good couple of hours finding splinters from your finger tips to your elbows... we must be mad

its all about getting up at 5am in the freezing cold,eyes sore with tiredness,pissing on the seat because your not quite awake, then pulling on your thermals while waiting for the kettle to boil.....followed by opening the back door and trudging off to the frozen shed and courts to awake the ferrets for a days graft. then arriving at an even colder part of the countryside where NOTHING MATTERS AT ALL BECAUSE YOUR OUT DOING WHAT YOU LOVE

Aye. And when it goes right. Nets down as the sun is rising, grass still crisp with frost. Clean bolts, nice pursing after a short rumble. No digs, no squeals of a pinned rabbit, no ferrets messing around. Just being out is good enough for me though.

Getting away from it all and not listening to lads going on bout there noisy cars and watching the animals you feed and go on ur habns and knees to clean out every night do what they were bred to do hearing the thumping of a rabbit and yes even the odd dig when ya open up the tube and you ferret has a death grip on his rabbit and you are not taking it from him/her then putting the hand into a stopend pulling maybe another one out but not knowing whether you will or wont find more in there watching the dog chase one smart little rabbit who slipped the longnet and your ferret chasing a bunny into the naet and when its face all covered in mud and you know its done some real work to get that rabbit out
