fitchet 788
Hearing them "bumping" on a frosty morning no matter how long you been at it it's still exciting when it's heard. 10 Quote Link to post
Bunny Boiler 177
Hearing them "bumping" on a frosty morning no matter how long you been at it it's still exciting when it's heard. Aye. And when it goes right. Nets down as the sun is rising, grass still crisp with frost. Clean bolts, nice pursing after a short rumble. No digs, no squeals of a pinned rabbit, no ferrets messing around. Just being out is good enough for me though. 4 Quote Link to post

I think these days it's as much a part of ferreting as the ferrets themselves. I'll be honest though I rarely go ferreting without a mutt of some sort in tow. You forget how boring it is while the ferrets are down and watching the dog takes your mind off it. Ferreting without a dog is like watching paint dry IMO. I think that's what makes my day seeing a well schooled dog at work or even watching a young dog learn. I think this somes it up pretty well .... whiteracer 258
For me it's just getting away from it all and being out in the open fields, turn the mobile phone off and enjoy the peace and think things thru! Quote Link to post
jonnygray 139
I got one big warren in a cattle field with bout 8 holes always looks like its fresh and holding loads very easy to net as grass is always well grazed just bang the long nets all around it, in around 5 years I have only ever bolted 3 rabbits from it, its a deep deep warren and the ferrets often go deeper than the finder will go but no matter how many ferrets i put in nothing comes out. But I do it every time I go out its the first place I come to and only about 500yrds from my back gate, I look at it as the warm up, gives the ferrets a bit of a run to get em going gives me a chance to make sure the longnets dont need sorting anywhere, and gives me a chance to test the locators are all working right, everytime I get there same routine check all the gear drop in the ferts sit on the box light a cig and have a cuppa while I wait for feck all to happen! My old bitch used to look at me like I was stupid every time we got there as if to say "not markeds it dickhead what ya doing" then shed just lay down and wait for the ferts to reappear! sometimes just nice to sit and chill and enjoy whats around you! hawkingyorkshire 6
Listening to the ferrets chasing the rabbits around the warren, seeing the ferrets working the warren and seeing them bolting into the nets! ferreting is brill! just got to do the right sets at the right places! Yeah Id go with that one. One of my perms has a warren in the base of a big oak tree it sounds like thunder when the rabbits start moving. That and rabbit vindaloo. Quote Link to post

Foxhole 22
I in the main bolt rabbits for the hawk but enjoy netting too. but i agree with all the anticipation and getting to see the ferrets stretch their legs. I just love it when a ferret is on the scent scuttling around between holes or bobbing it's head up..... 1 Quote Link to post
