Police Helicopters.

Recommended Posts

over past years i have never had a issue at all with this but over the last year its happened me once and a few friends (twice in the last few months) the use of police helicopters when out lamping. now this is on foot 2 blokes 2 dogs and a lamp. no driving fields over crops though gates etc. in my opinion if your driving fields crashing though fences and so on its no better than joy riding and the use of the police helicopter would be justified. but for a bloke and a dog after a few rabbits its a huge waste of money. i was just wondering how common it is for this to happen? it seems to be on the increase in certain areas. for those who "jump the odd fence" there is no getting away from this how is this affecting the way you go about stuff now? permisson is a obvious must in the dog world but sometimes the odd fence gets jumped but surley this is putting a stop on lamping in a few areas.

all the best gibbo.

Pal of mine and myself had this issue about five years ago....on permission, doing nothing illegal where we were. Chopper overhead followed by ground cops an hour or so later. Some tosspot member of the public more in tune with political correctness than the law had reported suspicious activity and got the instant response often lacking during real crisis! Waste of several hundred pounds at the very least!

I suppose that to a helicopter with thermal imaging, people in the country side at night are gonna stick out like a sore thumb, so if the chopper is passing over and seems to linger it may well be just checking to see if any crime is being committed, you know burglary of country properties etc. I cant imagine that a chopper would be tasked to catch the odd chap who is going after a few rabbits etc, Choppers and planes cost a lot to keep in the air but yeah If property is being destroyed like fences and things, it will definitely draw attention from the sky. Also if you see a chopper/plane and have done nothing wrong but started trying to run or hide in cover, well that's going to look very suspicious.

I would imagine that if a single bloke who was after a few rabbits was stopped by a spy in the sky, it would be because they were deemed to be suspicious because they were wandering around at midnight in the country, not specifically because of the rabbits..................well I wouldn't like to think so, its nice to think there are still a few freedoms left :)

I was told by an officer that had stopped us a few weeks ago it costs nearly as much to keep it on the ground as it does in the air as i asked him why get the helicopter out for rabbiting. They are getting extremely hot on it now had my lamp with me the other night on a public lane helping a mate with his mares next minute police are there saying a golf course owner had reported us even told me to get a headtorch or expect to get hassle.

:icon_eek: Crickey..............even the choice of illumination when out and about is being dictated to the public. They really will be rationing and charging for oxygen next. What about high powered led/cree led hand held torches, is there a maximum lumens level allowed when travelling the countryside at night.

Depends on the area I think. . . . and what kinds of game are there, how much hassle they get etc.

We were operating in broad daylight...legally!

Its like that on a little spot i ferret on if we go there you are pretty much garunteed a visit from plod just due to the public seeing running dogs on the land every time theyve seen us they have never asked for permission just searched us said thanks very much and carried on. It doesnt help with all the clips on tv they never say about legal lurcherwork just the usual shit about gangs driving the land even a couple of years back i could go an have a days sport without looking over my shoulder now even with permission its allways a worry.

I know and I agree with you fully, as I said I can't believe that this is helping our cause… Clearly not dog men! As you said and great reason for the police to be suspicious when there is a light shining around in a field… Same old story, it's the odd nob like this that f@cks it all up for everyone else.
