Roost Shooting With Paulus.

Paulus kindly invited me up for a bit of roost shooting Thursday. We managed LOTS more than the last time we went.

 

I find it amazing that someone who regularly goes out in muddy fields would have a pair of boots with quite so many holes in. They look like they've been mauled by a tiger. Then he complains of having wet feet? They were like that when I last saw him in February. Tight b*****d.

 

Anyway, as usual, he parked as far as possible away from where we were going to shoot, so far that we had to have several fag breaks en route.

 

Much puffing and wheezing later, we got to the woods, complete with 4 1/2 lbs of mud on each boot and took cover, when an old bloke turned up. He was talking to Paul, but they were speaking in some Northern dialect that wasn't familiar to me. It turns out he was just after a few woodies himself. He soon got fed up with me blasting away at everything before he could even raise his gun, so he f****d off.

 

I seem to be getting the hang of it now as a few woodies and a magpie bit the dust. I haven't used my o/u for a long time but it still works if pointed in the right direction. I heard a LOT of bang bang bang from where Paul was hiding, but I didn't see anything fall out of the sky.

 

We walked along a bit and a pigeon came right overhead. We both fired at the same time and a pigeon that was more holes than meat fell out of the sky and Flash the dog retrieved it for us. That's one amazing lurcher. The pigeon was somehow still alive and after a brief tussle Paul eventually managed to dispatch it. It must have had 60 grams of lead in it.

 

It was getting dark by then and as we had a long, long, long way to get back to the van we called it a day, and started the route march back.

 

A quick cuppa back at Paul's and I was ready for the drive home.

the old dog did well given he was at deaths door 3 months ago, all them pheasants he put up either went over the hedge or back through the wood, made me laugh when he sits there watching the incoming birds and then turns and looks at me as if to say "well go on then"

We had an evening on the crows on Saturday. Only got 14 but that was for 23 shots so we were well please That was after a walk round the farm with the springers....I think we were nattering too much and everything had heard us coming lol Only saw one bunny.
