the_stig 6,614
My Auntie Barbara has made a tidy living at buying & restoring antiques, it started when she used to paint stuff on slate & velvet & she did a range like the canal barge stuff , painting things on old milk churns ... very talented lady I`ve got a cutomer buys all my vintage cups and saucers she makes them into candles put a wick in fill the cup with wax they sell in her craft shop for 15 quid .. she does tea pots at 20 quid .. I was speaking to her last week & she found a lalique glass thing at a boot sale , she sells more to the yanks now apparently they like glass , I love her house ... nothing matches & its packed with pictures that need framing & odd bits of old tatty furniture I don't know the glass market kay but theres a woman stands next to me on the antiques fairs she has some nice coloured glass the yanks and aussies go made for it I saw her sell one piece for £300 ... the_stig 6,614
had a mate that would buy returned argos goods by the pallet, you dont get to know what is on it apparently its a mix of stuff, he would then ebay it all separately. Sounded like he got by doing it but struck me as a lot of work for the return this is the way I look at it -------is it better than putting 40 hours in for some kunt that's no better than you but thinks he owns you Monday-Friday...

I meant specifically for the argos returns thingy, always seemed he had a lot of faffing about with stuff. No worse than doing a 9-5 time wise though and at least he got to do it from home.

NEWKID 27,454
I've renovated an old industrial unit into 2 rehearsal studios for bands, put a mixing room in the middle, so one day it can be a full blown recording studio.... makes a couple of quid extra a month..
the_stig 6,614
I think some people just have a knack of being able to make money or be self employed I couldn't say what but with me I had no choice I had a bad habit of telling gaffers to feck off .. and a bit of this if I didn't get my overtime or bonus paid the mrs used to say not again the fecking gas bills due

To be honest stig, I'm what would you call it, a silent partner. He never had the candy, I threw some in the hat. I looked into it though, obviously he already had a buyer lined up so we never even needed to touch the stuff. He sends a lorry to stafford, gets the stuff and exports it. I ain't gonna go into every detail obviously but it makes a return. We've done it a few times now, I've got my original money back, the profit we made stayed in the business and now we are about ready to get something out of it
