Which Era Had The Best Music

Recommended Posts

My mum and dad were skinheads, back in the day, so. I grew up with Ska and Motown. I was 16 in 1987 so I was a founding force in the house music scene.

Therefore, I'm right and yo upticks are wrong.

you'd remember the sunrise parties then and tunes like promised land by joe smooth and what about dj evil eddie Richards.

And Strings of Life, unmixed and unabused!

And "Everybodies gonna strip and jump in the pool and do what you like"

Rascal_2005 is a youngster and a clubber. We were driving one night off out lamping and he had his CD playing in the car. He said it was new. I sang the lyrics to the first 4 songs that were on his CD!! He was shocked to discover that his "new" music was remixed stuff that the old boy used to listen to.

Had the exact same thing with my stepson. He thinks him and his mates are the first ever lads to get nutted and have a dance. They all got tickets to see the prodigy a couple of years ago and were telling me all about them. They didnt believe me when i told them i paid a Tenner to see them at the leas cliff hall in Folkstone 20yrs ago.

Don't think i can say a specific era, i like all sorts. Currently got Bizarre Inc - Playing with Knives on the go....tuneeeeeeeeee, next Madness - Our House then Bastille - Of the Night (remixed from the 90s tune)...some more recent stuff then i might finish the night off with a progressive house mix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heJBwBUStXU

70's or the 80's...

The start of the 1970's seen the end of the Beatles and the last gasps of the Woodstock hippy days.

In came Metal in its first forms, with Sabbath, Led Zep and Deep P.

King Crimson rose from Hyde Park and led the way with Prog Rock, Floyd, Genesis, Yes, ELP etc.

Along with it came the Glam stuff, Sweet, Wizard, Slade, don't forget Roxy I hear Stabba cry.... But what about E.L.O.!!!!!!!!

Oh yer, the Stones and the Who were at their peak right about now too... Not to mention Elton, Rod and Bolan

Go across the pond, giants like ZZ Top, Springsteen, Kiss, the Doobies, Foreingner and Steely Dan...

Hey, have i mentioned anyone black yet.... 'No', well just gotta give that 'ol Funk scene a massive mention, Parliament/Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, The Ohio Players, Cool and the Gang, Grand Funk Railroad and we ain't even got to Marvin, the Jacksons, Earth Wind and Fire or The Commodores stuff...!!!

Now That was the beginin of the 70's and I've only just scratched the surface, because later on came Disco, then Punk and big bad Bob from Jamaica in all their shambolic glory... How far do ya want me to go....

Just for the record, as underrated and good as the 70's were my personal fav is the 80's but we ain't got all night...!

Reading through your list remended me i saw earth wind & fire in kent when I was about 12  ... it also reminded me of the first time I played Elephant talk ... bit of acquired listening for most but then again most prog rock is ... I have lasting memories of playing hocus pocus by focus & playing jethro Tull in my bedroom & being told to turn it down

Brought back some lovely memories has your list
