nelson 0
God knows Poach, i reckon if you put the time into a good strain of whatever you like, the results should come though. I've yet to have a terrier that wasn't dug to regularly but then i've yet to have a terrier that didn't try my patience or end up being sold or nearly sold. That is my fault and not the dogs, i just get a bit arsey when they reach that teenage sort of age where they think they are going to do they're own thing. One thing i have noticed over the years and me and a mate were talking about this the last week, is that a good terrier pup that does plenty of either rats, squirrels or both, gets used to the pain of a bite and seems to be a bit more determined when the shit hit's the fan down below ground. Don't know if that makes sense Best i've had is the black bitch i have now, when it comes out of an earth it puts welding goggles on, it hates day light that much, just a nice size and plenty of heart. redrob... 0
the preferred terrier of any diggin lad is one that will find and stay till dug to, end of Quote Link to post
santeri 0
It depends, when hunting raccoondogs, the dog can be hard, mute even, but when digging badger (it's legal here) I prefer a bayer that doesn't mix too much. And since you almost never know when the dog finds a badger, I usually prefer a bayer/mixer. For now it's a smooth fox terrier, and I have a German jagdterrier growing up, most likely to turn out mute, and a russel pup to have another badgerdigging dog. Quote Link to post

jonesy 111
Got an old pat/laky cross that has done everything ive asked of him,got to be honest and say that i prefer lakys not some big name breeder just a dog that has been bred right but then again you still get failures, cant really comment on other breeds as i havent seen them work over and over only the dogs ive tried i had a bedlington years ago,not putting the whole breed down but that dog was enough to put me of that breed for life and he came from a big name in the breed at least that is what i was led to believe,so now it is a case of if i like the look of the parents or i have been told from someone i know that the pup has a good chance of grafting, ive got a young bitch laky at moment coming up to a year has had rats and a few rags but i dont think she will make the grade i hope she proves me wrong but there is just something that makes me think there is something not there. Guest Dig1
from what i've been out with and seen i'd go for a well bred patt everytime, from what ive seen of lakelands they are useless, seen a couple of good russells but were only fox dogs. i prefer blacks as opposed to chocolates as theyre not seen as 'good looking' leaving only work in mind Quote Link to post
