whipbed 42
it looks like you are doing things the correct way and the more you get the dog out the better. on the days that she,s not that interested it is probably due to lack of fresh scent. my terrier only enters cover if fresh scent and my mates will enter regardless just different attitudes to working. if she has made a catch herself then i don,t think thers is anything to worry about. getting a small lurcher/whippet is a good idea but in the meantime have you thought about using a long net to catch the bolters? a bit like ferreting only using a terrier instead. good luck Quote Link to post
day and night walker 235
Hello fella i am from slough whereabouts r u from. And to answer whipbed yes i have thought about using a longnet but the rabbits round where i take her got mixy so not as many now but there is always next year also mine has had about 4 healthy rabbits and she had them back in sep/oct this year and then the mixy hit so she nailed a few more but i dont count the mixy ones even though they r great 4 bringing on a pup. I think the reason she does not work through the cover without scent is her size as i have said she is very tall about 15tts give or take half inch. It can be really off putting sum days and i start thinking that she is starting to jack and then other days she leaves bits of her self in the cover. atb daywalker. Quote Link to post

day and night walker 235
I know bracknell not that far from slough. is your pup bred from working terriers not that it really matters when it comes to bushing dogs. If i could give any advice on bringing on a dog it would be apart from the obvious it has to be patience not that i have much myself and also you have done the right thing getting a pup because now u can work on recall ect because that really matters when u have a working dog u need them to be obidient atb daywalker. Wellsyno 0
That's what I have been working on and to be fair he's doing good even when off lead with other dogs, he's coming back, that's always a good test. Yes he's from working stock, reckon he'll come out at 12tts give or take, he's got big paws so I'm hoping for a strong little dog. Where do you go you stay local or go further afield? day and night walker 235
I stay local, public footpaths ect the reason being i do not drive which is a right pain but saying that their is some nice places to go 4 rabbits quite near to me but at the moment there doesn't seem to be much on top during the day unlike the summer it was the same when i got her the end of last jan nothing about till spring. Wellsyno 0
Maybe come spring/summer could meet up hopefully my pup will be coming along by then. Would it not be worth giving it a go with ferrets as previously said, at least there will be something to keep the dog busy. Quote Link to post
