Ideation 8,216
I understand the reluctance to phone old bill. But I think in this particular area, i'm very very likely to get a pull. . . . and would rather avoid it at all costs . . . . . So what i'm trying to weigh up, is . . . . does calling 101 etc. . . . reduce or increase the chances ? I.e are they going to get called and think - no, thats the lad who phoned us. Or are they going to think. . . . well, that lad has just rang us and told us where he will be and at what time. . . . so lets go and check his vehicle and see what he has caught??? The one 8,482
It doesn't always work at one permission i have to phone up and get a number its entered in the sites log book , The stupid question they ask you are unreal , then ive had the armed response out six times the other guy four time's and ive been stopped by patrol cars as well who ask what are you doing ?. i say shooting the rabbits and quote a job number they reply control doesn't tell us . so i dont get the point and only do it on that permission as its in my contract and its a good place rabbit wise 1 Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
why not make an appointment to have a chat with the local wildlife officer? if he sees you are a reasonable bloke i'm sure he has plenty of arseholes round there to be spending his time on, and may be glad that knowing there is one normal person lamping means one less incident to follow up.they can also tell you exactly what the best procedure is, at one time when i used to lamp a lot i used to stop in the local station every week or so and just write a list for the desk sargeant where i would be, never had any bother but that was years ago and times change i know!! if you can save the plod turning up and waking the farmers as well as scaring game away then its surely worth it. i dont think they are more likely to come out after you've called, why would you effectively tip them off if you were then going to commit a crime? Rake aboot 4,936
You can call them up and get an incident ref number, which you can show the cops when they come out to check you out ! Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
My advice would be stay away from them. I don't think it would do you any harm to phone in but then I certainly don't think it will do you any favours...... They are not there to help any one but themselves....They will soon have your number plate on the system ect....... Quote Link to post
jonnygray 139
I've never really had any need to inform the police of my movements. . . . . but I know there are a few on here that do. . . . so thought i'd ask . . . I've recently got a chunk of permission in the middle of some really hot land. . . . that's plaugued at times, by poachers, the 4x4 crews etc. Stock have been killed etc etc. . . . . so everyones a bit jumpy about lamping. Before I go, i've got to call the farms that I have permission on, but also the neighboring farms that I don't, so they know it's me. Despite this . . . . .there is a good chance that some one i've missed or just a passer by, will call the police. . . . . Now, I don't want to upset the farmers who have just given me perm, by getting them woken up by a call from the police. . . . . so I was thinking it might be a good idea to call the police in advance? So my question is. . . . does it actually work, and who do you call, and what do you ask for? Cheers all. Jai. to be fair i do ring the 101 number let em know where ill be where im going how many with how many dogs and have never had any problem at all always ring on the way home to let em know im done, I think that way if there is anyone on my perm doing something naughty after ive gone ive covered my arse with the police and as far as the farmers concerned! also if someone elses land is getting run without perm it cant be me they know where i am! I dont mind it on most of my stuff i dont even have to ring the land owner to let him know im out so does cover my back for the sake of a 2 min call on the way, and once youve called a couple of times they get to know ya and gets even quicker, its only civvy operator on the end of the line and they just type in most wont even have a clue what your actually on about when you say your off out lamping! fireman 10,926
Excellent. The next question is . . . . . . do you think it makes it more likely that they will come and check you out? Why and what you really up to ? . Quote Link to post
moxy 617
On most night jobs when we are shooting or some sensitive areas of permission we always call the old bill and obtain a log number. Give them your details and vehicle reg etc and times your going to be there. Phone them back when your done and log off. Saves loads of hassle Quote Link to post
alimac 882
On place Iv had to phone, Iv left my name. & number & rough start finish time, Iv never been stopped or called. Imo your alot less likely to be pulled, those that say different have probably never done it so can't compare really.. Quote Link to post
Grizzly 26
Once someone calls the police to report something they have a legal responsibility to come check it out, whether you've already informed them or not. I never used to mind calling the police to let them know where I was going, it also never stopped them coming out to check what I was up to if someone reported seeing me lamping. It's not really that much hassle at the end of the day and I'd rather them come out to see who's around on my permission, especially as I'm the only one supposed to be on there. If poachers know that the police might be around then they'll sharpish go off and find someone else's game to nick and permission to poach. Quote Link to post
whitefeet4190 1,728
I'd just go and not give your details to the police otherwise u will be on the radar and hassled as most of them can't tell the difference between a pheasant and a wood pigeon Quote Link to post
Suzy Ross 236
I've never told the police f**k all but I have left a few notes on windscreens of guys cars I've seen parked out poaching, to report to the police station Quote Link to post
