Whats the ideal amount of time to starv the ferrets before going out on the hunt?

Does it afect the outcome of the amount of rabbits u will catch or lack of energy in the ferret?

I don't think you need to starve ferrets. I fed my ferrets half a rabbit last night same as most nights then today I worked them and they worked well all day.

Yeah, I feed mine, always have food in! I wouldn't go out working all day with out eating, I'd have no energy. Me, dog and ferrets all get fed in the morning and we do fine. If out all day I take food and water for all of us and enjoy the break, time to soak in the environment and have a rest.

dear me I thought the days of starving ferrets or feeding them on bread and milk had long gone..lets look at it this way if you are going out ferreting on a sunday to you stop eating all day Saturday no you don't so don't treat your ferrets the same way...

How long do you starve yourself before the hunt ?

I dont i have a hearty breakfast and so do my ferrets ,they hunt because they want to not because there looking to kill something for a feed as said these days are long passed and so they should be , how can you expect ferrets to have the stamina to hunt all day and keep there body temperatures up in the cold with a empty belly ?.

Aye but start of the ferreting season ain't it

Its not such a stupid question when you think about it. I mean if you were only just starting out in the sport you could be forgiven for thinking that ferrets hunt when they are hungy.

So i take it nobody research's ferrets before they get any and looks at the working posts before they start ferreting ?.

It was somthing my partners dad said he did when he was ferreting back in the 70s and her uncle still does

Wasnt sure if people still did it or not?

Just asking people on here as starting out.

Asking about is all part of learning the right way!

Sorry if u feel this is stupid to ask!

Starving ferrets prior to hunting should not happen in this day and age..

But for someone starting out, he may have got some advice locally and it would be very easy to listen to some daft old timer talking about what they did in days gone by etc etc... and buying what he was coming out with as gospel.

The lad can be forgiven for asking the question in my opinion. And it is better that he did.

LOL just seen your last post Adam87
