slipper 116
I have used the remington accutip boat tail my cz 527 liked the 50 grain, but the gun shops around here did'nt keep a lot in so I have been using hornady 40 grain vmax while I'm trying to get my home loads spot on and they are great had a fox last night and its head was like soup! 1 Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
I'm sure feo's make things up half the time.. What a load of tosh, you could fire 1 million rounds of .22lr down a rimfire range and still be none the wiser for a centre fire in the field. As for .223, I use 40gr v-max nosler ballistic tip. Very accurate, very flat with a lot of splat power. Why 200 meter max my the way? Even 300m is no great shakes with the right glass. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Because I can easily call them in that close. All the land I shoot has never been shot with fac rifle so itt should be easy pickings. Obviously wwhen they become wise I'd have to extend the range. But until then the closer the better Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Because I can easily call them in that close. All the land I shoot has never been shot with fac rifle so itt should be easy pickings. Obviously wwhen they become wise I'd have to extend the range. But until then the closer the better There is little reason in the majority of cases to take long shots at foxes anyway, they are easily tracked and baited on the whole..... and generally the only foxes that have a chance to get wise are the ones you miss! 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
That's what I mean deker, if I'm out shooting and a fox presented itself at long range and I felt the shot was managable I'd certainly take it. But if I could call it withing 200yards happy days. What do you reckon to the cz527 slipper? Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
I'd agree about getting them in as close as possible - no point taking a long shot just for the sake of it but you can bet one day there will be one which is wise to you, either by being schooled by you or someone else. slipper 116
Had my cz 527 since june, I had to buy a cheek comb raiser because the stock slopes away and when I shoulderd the rifle I had to adjust my head but since then been great, got a set trigger so I can push it forward for a nice light pull. Got a pes 12 stainless mod on it and use it with my nightmaster 800. Had a couple of misfires but that might just be a bolt strip and clean I have been told. Had crows out to 350 odd yards but mainly use it to shoot foxes out to about 200, Where in shropshire are you? You could have a go with mine to see what you think, im in shrewsbury Atb Quote Link to post
Barrel 1
Hello All, Just a few thoughts on 223 ammunition that I sell in the shop for fox and coyotes Federal 50 grain upto 69 grain, Hornady 40 grain Vmax 75 grain, PMC 50 grain UP TO 69 Grain, Remington 50 grain up to 69 grain, Winchester 45 grain Jacket Hollow Point up to 64 Power point plus some hunters comes in and said that Winchester 55 Ballistic Slivertip is the best for foxes. I know that every rifle is not a like. You just have to try and see what your rifle likes to shoot. I would try different makes see which one is best for your rifle.I would try and get some boxes and fir 5 shots into a target and see what groups best at the bulls eye this is what I do when someone comes to the shop to test which ammunition is best for his or her rifle. hope this helps you out a bit. 1 Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Hi: Just a minor 'negative' unless you choose what is always readily available from your local gunshops you will be forced to buy whatever he has at the moment now and again. At least with a .223 lots of people have them so its fairly easy to source, (unlike 22 Hornet, .222 or 220Swift) You know what I'm going to say next RELOAD, then you really can brew up whatever you fancy. Also buying a larger quantity is also either restricted by your FAC or just as likely your pocket. AndyF Quote Link to post
