squirreltail 15
just looked on the web, put in fur tanning, and all the recipes are there, hope you get on ok, years ago did badgers and fox and sqirrel, but they were so lifelike I got rid of them. Good idea to just tan the fur though Ive often thought its a waste to throw them away.
steve109 43
salt only sets the hair, you need to get some alum salt mix. or lutan fn. also you need to shave and break the skin in order to get a supple finish...

john b 38
I've had a lot of success preserving fox tails by just dunking them in a jar of meths for a couple of months.
Guest Scuba1
Dis you flesh them properly, that means taking the " membrane" and the fat of the sikin before you put the salt on ?¿? I skin and flesh the hide and then hang it ou in the wind for a few days ( 1 to 3 depending on the weather ) then rub it down with coarse salt and leave it to dry for another 2 to 3 days after that I can take all the time I want to tan it. Keep in mind that I live in a hot place and today we had the first bit of drizzle since march. So a hair dryer would help a bit in your case. ATB Michael
squirreltail 15
Alternately, if youve got a good set of teeth, you can chew it till its pliable like the innuits do.
