sussex 5,777
Just an update ....back out on the does this afternoon , after wasting a whole morning waiting for the BT engineer to fix our storm damaged line , surprisingly he never showed!!! .Anyway managed to get out & put a portable seat in position for later & then made my way round to the valley , quite a few deer showing & after about half an hour managed to knock a very poor looking yearling over .A quick gralloch showed her to have a pretty heavy infestation of fluke, dragging her to one side for pick up later I went up hill & along the top to glass below ,seeing deer wasn't to much trouble but getting a clear path for a 6.5 was, as I made my way further along the top I could see a doe 100m away & below me slowly coming towards me , sitting down resting against a tree I opened the bipod to full height & waited to see if she came clear ,appearing every now & then she finally came out in a clearing about 70m away & I took the chance .Another quick gralloch & a drag down to the track I went back for the quad , deciding time was getting short I decided to pick the deer up & go straight round to the seat with them on board . The seat was at the bottom of a gently sloping field , woodland behind , scrub wood to my right the first deer appeared after only 30 min but at 250ish m they were on my horizon so no shot ,they just wandered over the brow & away ,several more groups appeared & disappeared , my choice of position was looking pants! Another bunch of 10 or so does came out , followed by a dark buck all going to take the same escape route .I have in my bag a set of antlers , quietly getting them out I rattled them a couple of times which stopped the buck in his tracks , another little clash had him at a quick trot coming straight at me , I followed him in to about 60m at which point I grunted at him to stop him , he stopped & looked in my direction , I was looking in his but I was looking through a 8x56 on top of a tikka 6.5 , a gentle squeeze of the trigger & I see the strike high on the neck . Now I had to run the first couple back to the vehicle & return for the buck , all loaded I headed for home , where he was gralloched washed tagged at 130lb , & joined by the two does went in the chiller with Tuesdays four ...Out again in the morning 1 Quote Link to post
