JohnGalway 1,043
Done the ladder trap, larsen trap, larsen mate, they all work. I know of the funnel trap, and another made with wire/trawl net on top, not made either. Anything else out there, or a case of nothing new under the sun? Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
John; I have a trap you likely wouldn't have heard of. But, it's bloody expensive and only catches one at a time. Called a Tent Trap. I got it for my Ringing escapades. Basically, it's set flat on the ground and, when fired, it snaps over rather like a mouse trap. Only, in so doing it creates a tent. So, the bird vanishes. I can give you a link. But, as I say, really not sure it's worth your while. Quote Link to post
nod 285
They used to use them traps to catch birds of prey, by putting a pigeon under the net and when bird of prey hit the net it snaps shut and the pigeon flies off Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
" Goshawk Trap ", Nod. Completely different from what I have here, mate. Old mate of mine, trap collector in Holland, got his hands on one of those. Huge f**king thing! (Bugger. Just checked. Sadly, I haven't got access to a photo of it) The one in " Animal Traps and Trapping ", by Bateman, anyway. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
" Goshawk Trap ", I have one here for sale if anyone would like one - it is made like a giant pole trap, with 24 inch jaws and two curved springs - one on each side OTC Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Faaaarkin 'Ell, OTC! Let me just see if the boss will sign me a chit for one and I'd take ye f**kin hand off! (If Only we were allowed to use live decoys! ) Quote Link to post

I don't think spring traps are legal for corvids over here. I get the best results with multi entry ladder traps. Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
KillBilly; John's just asking what exists. I've told him. Privately. I wouldn't encourage the world to visit the sites I buy from. No reason to. Regards legalities? I'm cool. I'm licensed But then, I let shit go. I pay a Lot of personal income to do this. I very much doubt anyone would pay the price I paid, for my trap, just to kill crows. F**k no! Cartridges or rounds are cents. My trap cost me over €100.00! Just to be clear, here: I'm a licensed Ringer. I'm trained, and authorised by the Irish government, to catch wild birds. Ring them. Let them go. That's what I do. I've just saved John a google search. I buy bird traps from several sources. All findable on google. Just some won't entertain you without seeing your permit. As it should be. So saying; I'm off to search for more bird traps to buy! I'm f**king useless round a Mist Net! 1 Quote Link to post
killbilly 17
No sweat lad.... I was just thinkin about what type of traps are permitted for use by the general public over here. Love to see a professional ringer at work and can well imagine that it takes alot of skill to do it right. Edited November 9, 2013 by killbilly Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
Professional ringer yes? How did you get into that? sounds really interesting work. Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Mr Muddy; That's actually a bit of a misconception, mate. Based on Killbillys choice of wording. In fact, with the odd exceptions, such as people employed to carry out surveys and what not, we ringers fund ourselves and do it for the love of it. Truth to tell? It costs me a small fortune! Anyway, rather than just repeat what I've probably already said ..... Here. Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
Thanks for the link mate I'll start having a read through the topic. Quote Link to post
