Ive no read the threads but i cant see the point of having one ?. its no going to replace a ferret .

Correct me if I'm wrong Minkenry. But he gets his from farms, they are born around humans. Also perhaps they even breed from the mink that are easier to manage like that Russian fox farm.

I think it's just wanted as a 'look at me i have a mink' type thing...sounds like a load of ball ache and if she hasn't caught one she's not been trying too hard lol

Agreed ,I don't see the point but isn't,t just the same as any other pest we've imported from America she would need a special licence to keep it ? My fear would be after a while fed up of getting bitten etc it gets dumped maybe in a town or city see the problems that would cause

once let a rat go in the thistles center in sterling feck me that was funny! and won a £50 bet for takeing one out a cage trap alive with my barehands as for tameing one....feck that. thou i did have a pet otter for 3 years

Yeah i think you'd need a license. If you were given such license i don't think you would be able to let it run 'free' like Minkenry does, for fear of it doing one and escaping into the system?? Seems to me it's only wanted as a fashion accessory so can't see her keeping hold of it for long especially if it's a wild one and it bites hell out of her lol!

 

You're better off getting her a goldfish, no messing about, pretty to look at and a lot less bitey

I was out of work for 2 months last year and i caught 9,that was with two traps,borrowed off the local gun club.She cant be trying too hard if she cant get one in a year

Not a chance of taming an adult one.

 

 

Really? Did you even see my video? That mink was a full on adult trapped in the wild and that video was filmed just a couple months after I caught her. And here's a video of one my friend caught and tamed in FEBRUARY (mink are born in May where I live)......

 

 

This video was made after only 11 days of working with this adult mink that was trapped along a canal near my friend's house!

I've tamed both adult ranch and adult wild caught mink. The few wild caught mink I've had were actually the easiest to tame. I believe this is because the ranch one's have had negative experiences with humans, where as the wild ones are a clean slate. I'll have to handle a few more wilds before I can say for sure though. But so far, mink from the wild have been considerably easier to tame when compared to the ranch mink.

I agree with you if all you plan on doing is running rabbits out of holes, and into nets. But you try sticking your ferret down a muskrat hole, and you won't have a ferret very long. I've heard the experiences of a couple guys who've tried that, and it wasn't a pretty thing for the ferrets. Also, I'd like to see your ferret catch a fish, or a 700-800 gram mean fighting ground squirrel, or out climb a rat and catch it in a tree.

 

Ferrets are good at running rabbits out of holes, and they make good pets, but that's about it. A mink will beat it in just about everything else.
