Dubba 72
Well the not killing isn't a bad thing, mine always retrieved live to hand. But mauling and leaving is. After she's caught are you turning the lamp of? Is she normally good at retrieving? 1 Quote Link to post

whitefeet4190 1,725
That's it then give your dog a slap and it will stop killing!!! Ffs Well I've never had a dog kill a rabbit yet not even my bull x that I have now kills them but he crunches everything else maybe it's the way they are brought up then I don't know, they might sometimes be a bit hard mouthed but NOT kill a rabbits ffs Quote Link to post
albert64 1,882
perhaps you've give her to much to soon perhaps she's carrying an injury perhaps you've not got a proper bond with her yet perhaps this is the reason she was sold it could be a number of things but its probably the latter 2 Quote Link to post

You need to build up bond and trust with a dog for them to trust you enough to bring back a rabbit live. See what others think but I'd right this year off and work on building trust. If you carry on letting her kill and not retrieve then she'll get into that habit. Work hard on gaining her trust and make sure that you have a good bond and maybe try her again. Also, I don't know how much work has been done with her but does she even know how to retrieve? Have you done any retrieving with her with a tennis ball or a toy? If she'll retrieve them fine then I'd definitely say that it's a trust/bond thing but if not you need to work on the retrieve itself as well as trust and bond. Just my opinion but hope it helps ATB Sam 2 Quote Link to post
