Born Hunter 17,841
I have no doubt of that, but based on the figure of £2.5B quoted for future spending is small change for a serious 21st century submarine fleet and considering Scotlands dependance on off shore oil I'd of thought them to be considered pretty essential? But yeah, you're right, you could have a tidy little defence force purely for defending home soil. But personally I'm proud of our current ability to be able to project our word just about anywhere in the world protecting any and all British interests and citizens not just defencively but offensively. For instance if a British Embassy is under threat anywhere in the world we can act immediately, I just don't see how Scotland alone could do that. For once I agree with you. I don't want the union split up but it just irks me to listen to English guys like yourself talk about BRITIANS armed forces as if they are englands. It's you northern buggers that want out and to divvy everything up, so based on spending the British military is 90% the Unions and only 10% Scottish. Before your rabid nationalists north of the wall brought the idea up it belonged firmly to all of us and there was no 'ours and yours' talk at all. You see the flag I'm flying...... British first English second in my mind. I know you lot are all Scot/Welsh/NI first British second but don't assume I'm the same. Christ Suzy , have I not praised how fecking good the Scots are at soldiering? To lose the Scottish regiments would be the greatest blow to the British military since Dunkirk! Suzy Ross 236
Pmsl born mate, don't believe for one minute us up here want independence. It's hopefully the minority that do. My biggest concern in the whole wretched affair is the timing. Glasgow hold the commonwealth games next summer, after seeing the feel good factor the Olympics brought, salmons will be onto it like a tramp on chips, that's my fear. I like winding you up born, your a clever lad but f**k me, you don't half swallow the bait

Suzy Ross 236
Here born, you know all about this independence stuff, I know very little. What do you think will really happen regarding changes to any of our lives north, east, west, south of the border if it goes through?

I know f**k all about independance, (you'll love that eh, lol) I just have a mild bordering nerdy interest in military and naval stuff. Malt's more clued up on the general stuff if you ask me, his post earlier on the political implications was a cracker.

Lol no, just glad to find a subject you don't know about aye but for us joe blogs, I wonder what the impact will be. I think those trading at the borders will be the hardest hit if their is a big difference in tax etc like vat.
Born Hunter 17,841
I think it'll depend largely on the outcome of negotiations between the Scottish and British governments and further negotitations between our governments and the EU. How will everything be shared out and how will our foreign relations be affected?
Suzy Ross 236
See just seeing that in writing, Scottish and British governments, knowing your in the outside looking in, sends chills. Salmond talks about all these other small nations that can 'survive' like finland, I'll bet they'd all jump at the chance to be part of Britian and here we are ready to opt out, crazy.
