sure ive used them in canada trapping mink and muskrats with my mate who is a pro. trapper and caught 2000 in three weeks , he packs 200 of these little floats on the back of his truck , not like the oversized monstrosities that they play with in our country , these floats have been used by the americans since the 1940,s so they are certainly not a new idea that everyone seems to think that they are in uk. snareman. Good that,we trap the bottom part of a stream and a local shoot do the top end,they use a raft and i noticed the same on it just never got the chance to ask

The Bars prevent non target speicies such as Otters from entering the trap. More commonly used are the cage traps fitted with an otter guard, Its too risky to use Fenns or body grips in the raft incase the Water vole or Otter from getting caught where in a live-catch can be realeased with out harm.

i run mink lines for years , and can honestly tell you that two sticks over the front of a tunnel does not stop a big hungry otter , afew years ago one worked my line of traps on a good sized river every day . this big old dog who was in the region of 20lbs. would just go right into every trap site along that certain stretch of river and get caught by the foot in every trap eat every bait and he would do this every day , the traps did not even worry it he was so bold , so i just flung a handfull of mallard duck breastfeathers into the trap site and some fish oil . and that stopped his nonsense as there were no goodies for him to eat anymore . i watched this big dog otter eyeing up 4 seagulls on a pool very early one morning at first light and he slipped into the water and came up underneath one bird and pulled it down under the water and away with it, he also would eat the mink caught in the traps in hard winter , so does the foxes eat the mink also , and the buzzards , so no matter how carefull we try to avoid non target species , unforeseen things do happen .
