kranky 507
I've got a digital monocular. It's handy. On one of my permissions I thought the rabbits had all disappeared but when I took the NV I saw loads. They were so lamp shy that they were running for cover before the beam even reached them. I watched them do it. For you lads that get lost every so often they can help you find your way to any helpful keepers by showing you where their infrared beam is shining. 1 Quote Link to post

Suzy Ross 236
What happened to go old fashioned field craft? I'll bet the fishing boats loved when sonar etc came about, no more fishing about all day looking for fish, just go out, ping, scoop them up. Look where they are now. The same could happen to your permission with all these high tech gadgets. If the rabbits are lamp shy, there's a reason for that. Better having mediocre bags for many seasons than large bags for half a season then nothing. I've seen some cracking land wasted by over hunting, land you thought could never be cleared. 2 Quote Link to post

Good old fashioned field craft has its limitations ..... And field craft develops with technology...... It's not the most subtle thing or the most practical at times to shine a million candle power lamp about the place....... But your right in that it can make folk lazy ....... 2 Quote Link to post

On a more serious note, has anyone tried a decent NV that costs 500 or less? What kind of range can the cheap ones see now? Edited November 5, 2013 by Maximus Ferret Quote Link to post
