My & my ferts first time ever

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd put my 6 eggs in,,,for what there worth. In 33 yrs of ferreting,I have never owned a knocker box or have I<[bANNED TEXT]> EVER</[bANNED TEXT]>had to dig out a fert,so,as Ferretlove(brilliant name)says the bonding and the play that you put in with your fert will pay off tenfold.I call my ferts they come...it's as simple as that.If I have a lay up,I have a purpose built box that I put into one of the holes and block the others, and, put a little tin of milk and some rabbit liver in with the straw, and hey presto next morning, there they are asleep in the straw.I must also add, that in 33yrs I've never lost a fert.

Now all that said, someone actually gave me a mk 1 knocker box recently, and,I am in two minds whether to try it out, but,I would only bother on the very large buries,as no matter what anybody says,if you dig, then you will always be digging in that bury, because when you dig,you make stop ends, thus causing more and more digs.......simple really. Also I have a very large dominant Hob that will push any jill off a kill.I used to have a Hob that would retrieve rabbits from the depths,by latching on to their face and going into reverse,he did it time after time as well.

Anyway,I'll let you get on with your bickering....................Martin.

my liners on most occasions over the years have backed out the burrow dragging the dead rabbit after having chased off the laid up jill,is it just the fact that the electronics have replaced this aspect of ferreting.i would rather breed and train a liner than have a ferret finder, what did the ferret finder users do before the ferret finder was developed?to say before ferret finders, ferrets were just lost, not so,as martin says a box or propped open sack with hay, food and drink placed inside works.but this is time consuming as it requires a visit at first light next day,so maybe for some this is not possible with todays busy lifestyle,in which case i can see why they are used.as for collars on ferrets, has anyone had one come off, malfunction or get snagged underground when ferreting woodland burrows?this as usual has turned into a for and against debate when the simple fact is,its preference, some use ferret finder, some liner and some nothing at all,the bottom line is as long as you get your ferret back safe and sound thats all that matters.all the best
