right lads im totally green when it comes to dogs, so take it easy :icon_redface: so I have a lurcher pup at 12 weeks now all jagged up. how often would you lads walk her and what distance roughly? I had her out earlier for about a mile then let her run the garden for a good few hours (she doesn't seem to tire) and didn't know what to make of the moving cars but im sure she'll get over that.

cheers atb :bye:

I've walked mine 3/4 miles a day since he could go out with my 2 terriers. The first couple of times I kept him on the lead all the way. He was freaked out by everything. Got to remember everything will be new to him. Even being on a lead ( unless you've had him around the house and garden?) the first times I took my pup out I got half way home and he just wouldn't walk any further so I put him in my jacket.

genreally two small walks a day is fine at that age I always preferred two small walks a day avg about a mile with a young dog they tend too get the picture that you want them too shit out side then when there older move onto bigger walks a day the distance is what you need too judge your self a dog will tell you if it's been out enuf you just need too look at it

A lot would depend on were your walking or if your running her loose with other dogs.

I put my dog in the car at that age and had her along the riverbank away from people and other dogs.somewhere she couldn't take off and do her own thing.my pup is just 5 months old and is walked from the house, but still not miles and miles.I get her among sheep, ponies, cattle etc

at that age i have mine in public parks, game fairs, lurcher shows, boot sales, on the beach with lots of dogwalkers etc, everywhere i could think of where they'd get new sights, scents and sounds.......lots of socialisation but i made sure they were never overstretched and had a wee retreat / shelter if they wanted it, they'd also tag along on wee local toilet walks in the local woods again lots of familiarisation with scents, birds, stepping over fallen branches and the like
