ash227@ymail.com 3
Just purchased my lurcher a few months ago she is a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie and I am planning on working her. sire is mixed bearded collie x border collie. I was just wondering how the bearded collie would come into play as the only thing I can think of is the difference in coat. My bitch is short coated any way but just wondering if there is any other positive that the bearded collie could to the table when I come to hunt. She is a hancock lurcher and her sire was dell boy just woundring if any one else has had a pup of the same sire and what they think of the dogs and pics would be great Quote Link to post
dogmad riley 1,344
This is a cross I have thinking about myself. Be good to here from people who have actually had experiance of this breeding. Get ready for the anti Hancock squad half of them never owned or seen one in the flesh Atb try and get a pic up Edited November 3, 2013 by dogmad riley Quote Link to post
jukel123 8,017
I asked a similar question a while back. What's the theory behind the 1/8th beardie? A lot of people will vouch for the 3/4 grey 1/4 border. How does the addition of beardie blood improve this cross? Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Sales gimmick? Sally Hancock told me the straight bearded collie crosses are bolder and not as robotic.wouldn't think the small fraction would make any difference to the cross? Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
It can make a difference. I had one of the original Taffy pups many years ago. Bit more scatty and immature until about 18 months old than a lot of border crosses. Turned out a decent bitch though. She did quit cold on rabbits at about 6 1/2 years old,but still liked other quarry. Marked fox to ground really well and would locate the terrier like a finder. Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
But what is the difference between one and a straight border cross greyhound? May ring Hancock and ask him 1 Quote Link to post
Flipper_Al 1,012
How old is the pup....? Quote Link to post
Accip74 7,112
My mate had exactly this cross from Hancock in the 90's, a fantastic all rounder, but a prolific fox dog....he was very aggressive.....scary sometimes! Lol....we assumed it was the 'beardie' influence......great dogs in the right hands mate 1 Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
I suspect it purely cosmetic, to get the coat. Quote Link to post
slygo83 4
Feet in the beardy are supposedly hardier than the border and more hardier in general than border from what have managed pick up but having had a cross off him before 9/16 gh 7/16 colly ( beardxborder) and the bearded like stated before took longer to mature not for me bearded stuff tho after that dog but each to own an atb we it 1 Quote Link to post
birddog 1,354
my pal 'rake aboot' on here has delboys litter brother he may be worth talking to, my hancock bred bitch is 3/16th's beardie.......she can be stubborn or is that determined ? under a mountain of hair her skin feels thicker for sure, she's almost 6 and worked allsorts of ground and touch wood no bad foot probs so far, compared to border x's ive had she's more independant when hunting, thinks for herself... when she thinks she's right youve got to go with it and to be fair she's not often been wrong..........but who's to say your pup won't throw more to the border genes, your pup is an individual just go with it and have fun, don't get hung up on the fractions thing 4 Quote Link to post
bunnys 1,228
good point made by bird dog getting hung up on fractions ,aswell has coat the f1 beardie border collie , does lend a hand in the height in the offspring getting usually stronger animals .atb bunnys. Quote Link to post
