ledders666 6
A few questions on cleaning my .22lr. Should I clean the barrel and mod? Whats the benefit of regular cleaning? How and what is best to clean it? Will the first few shots after cleaning be off zero? Thanks Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
I haven't bothered and it's never let me down. Others might disagree. 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
I only clean mine once in a blue moon and that includes the sound moderator , I thought most 22 ammo was lubricated and left very little fowling in the barrel Quote Link to post
bear-uk 17
Just clean the mod when it starts getting noisy. Quote Link to post
GEOFF.223 83
If it get a good socking give it a really good clean take stock of and clean metal below then put a couple of oily patch up barrel to drive moisture out. Or if your not planning not to use it for a long period of time (over bad winter month) For general cleaning if using it every few days or so in dry weather a wipe with a oily rag now and again should be fine. .22 dont usualy suffer accuracy problem with lack of cleaning but a good scrub of the barrel couple times a year cant be bad. Give the barrel a good scrub and oil if its going to be sitting for a long time. This will make it last a life time Edited November 3, 2013 by GEOFF.223 Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
I wipe mine down sometimes, but I've never cleaned the barrel. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If you use a .22lr for field work, and subs exclusively, there will generally be little advantage to regular cleaning. If you want to get involved in top level target work or use HV ammo a lot, then clean it! All my rifles get cleaned, and their mods, but my BA .22lr which is exclusive subs and field work gets cleaned least. My .22lr Semi gets more attention ..simply because it's a semi! If you zero your rifle with a clean barrel, and then in the fullness of time clean it properly it will retain zero and shoot straight shot 1, or shot 2 at worst (assuming the barrel/crown etc is true to start with). Edit I would clean the bolt and extractor claws anyway, they tend to clog up! Edited November 3, 2013 by Deker Quote Link to post
PLEDGEY 496
Have never cleaned my CZ 452 22LR or my AA S410 air rifle. Never had a problem with either of them. If it ain't broke...... Quote Link to post

GEOFF.223 83
If your planning of not using it for a long period of time away on holiday or away for afew weeks working I give mine a good scrubbing and a good coating of oil over the top but stops me having night terrors. =( Quote Link to post
Dubba 72
Honestly I've never bothered with the barrel. It's had many thousands of rounds through it and always shoots true Quote Link to post
