Westy76 546
The bullx isn't new at all ffs!!! Lord orford was credited with putting bull into his greys(in theory bull blood runs in most greys haha) but I bet it had been going on before him and the same with whippets. There's pics of bull x's being used as message runners in previous world wars, they've always been about where as the saluki was imported in the grand scheme of things only recently. Just because there popular atm doesn't mean there new. Quote Link to post
tatsblisters 10,151
Deerhound crosses seemed to be the most poular cross in the area i grew up in easly putting the grews that seemed to hold top spot in the shade.I remember part organizeing a courseing meet in the late 70s at carlton towers and out of more than fifty dogs that were there not one was saluki blooded though some lads from lancs had lurchers bred from a bull breed who the keeper had caught poaching but invited them back coursing if they stopped poaching the land. Maybe some things just can't be fixed. 2 Quote Link to post

birddog 1,354
in the 70's when i saw my first saluki i thought that things gonna break...how daft could a teenager be eh....................when i saw my 1st deerhound i thought wow now thats a mans dog..............the first genuine 1st x collie i saw was owned by an older guy (maybe in his 40's but we were daft laddies) gyp his name was bred in dumfries and every time we bumped into andy he had a hare or so in his pocket, i remember walking towards the cathkin braes around 8 in the morning as he was walking off depressed, his days sport had been ruined......gyp had taken 3 hares in the first 40 mins feck carrying them about all day he said back home for breakfast..............maybe why i like collie x's and early mornings now eh 3 Quote Link to post

Iam sure everyone knows about bull blood being used in GH many years back but i believe he's asking us what we used before the current trend towards bull and sal blood as none of us are old enough to have been knocking about with Lord Orford , buster. If I've taken the op's question out of context I apologise. Edited November 5, 2013 by Westy76 Quote Link to post
