willhunt 0
Hi Has anyone got any advice - my 2 year old terrier still messes in the house - I have tried many things, but has anyone got any ideas that I may not have tried.
cúagusgiorraí 57
Buy a pet cage, and keep him in it throughout the night, in the morning immediatiely let him outside. Keep him in the cage throughout the day and of course give him plenty of excercise outside. After a few days extend his borders by keeping him in one room only. Keep an eye on him all the time. When you are unable to do this keep him in the cage. As soon as he paces about to lift the leg, pick him up saying nothing and place him outside. Every two hours let him out. Eventually you can extend his border till he has free reign of the house. Whatever you do dont yell at him or scold him at all, it makes it worse. He will get the idea fast enough. Some terriers are plain stubborn and will never learn. The cage is your best bet!

Thanks for the advise, the most frustrating thing is that he is not shut in the house all day as I am home all day and he has free rein of the kitchen and garden all day, it is when I shut the back door for 5 mins there is a nice deposit by the door for me
Running 7
i dont know if it will work on a older dog but for pups feed them outside then leave them out to they have done the buisness
Guest jbswildlife
this is what you need to do place newspaper down in a spread lift the dog every time in starts its job place onto newspapere till it starts going to paper by its self slowly remove one sheet at a time till there is only one move that sheet closer and closer to the door until its outside then rip the paper bit by bit praising the dog all the time until he is looking to get outside to find the paper he will hold it in till he cant hold it anymore as soon as he drops it praise him after all hes outside joe
cúagusgiorraí 57
Ya, the newspaper is a good method as well. The cage is good if you are unable to monitor the dog.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
I'm a HUGE convert to cages myself So much as mention one to me a few years back and I'd have been in ye face! Now I ~ and my Dogs ~ see them as as normal as a feeding bowl. They're f*cking Great! Get him a cage to call his own and take it from there. The idea about feeding him outside and leaving him there till he's digested and done seems to work too. My own terrier bitch is just coming out of her first Really real season. And lo and behold, in mid season this perfectly house trained little Dog started treating my cottage like an open sewer! She even shit on my BED, for chrissake! So I got over it. Calmed down and thought. Then I started chaining her outside for her dinner. Leaving her a few hours afterwards. End of problem! Fed her about 18:00 tonight. Just this minute let her in and closed the door. I envisage no further problems tonight. Oh! Bless! She's fast asleep on my bed!

Guest Ditch_Shitter
i think she is just spiteing me whenever she gets disaplined she does it. what am i to do never tell her off. Why is she " disaplined " inside the house? What is she doing that so 'Spites' ye that ye feel the need to 'Tell her off' so much that she shits / pisses herself at your 'Telling off'? Please do fee free to openly and honestly expand on these points. Then, maybe, someone here might be able to help that bitch.
